AI Erasing Vintage Appliance History?

This one really gets to me. We on here know what the Whirlpool Power Clean Filter Module was. A self cleaning zero maintenance 1/3 HP design HP that was the peak and success of automatic dish-washing. Yet today when you Google "Whirlpool Power Clean Filter Module" it shows and describes the exact opposite. A modern mediocre ~1/16 HP design that requires manual filter cleaning, has no maceration, and is anemic in comparison. If you scroll down or click on images there is little showing the actual Whirlpool Power Clean Filter Module and absolutely nothing describing it other than a PDF link that is behind a paywall. The few actual depictions of the Power Clean Filter Module show various failure modes with one person even asking how to clean the self cleaning filter. If anything the causal internet user without appliance knowledge is left with the impression the old design was stupidly engineered with a none accessible filter which required manual cleaning and was prone to failures like not draining out water. All which is untrue or rare.

I notice that in general vintage appliance successes are either down played or completely ignored, while shortcoming are noisily aired out, accentuated, and then spotlighted.

There is a concerted effort in convincing people that what they have now is better than at any point in history and what existed prior was far worse, far more atrocious, far less thought out than what they use now. Which is not always the case. Far from it.

There is a concerted effort in convincing people that what they have now is better than at any point in history and what existed prior was far worse, far more atrocious, far less thought out than what they use now. Which is not always the case. Far from it.

Artificial Intelligence is going to be another annoying disruption to general society.
Just like many of the other "Techological Advances" that have shown to become plagues of society.
Prone to being hacked, biased, unreliable, and in some cases, dangerous or deadly.

Think of how we humans lived before all this came about......
Common Sense and Education of things was something that made civilization what it was, namely a society of human beings that were relatively peaceful, independent, and honest, with values handed down from elders.

Now compare what we have in today's world.......
People acting like puppets, zombies, and relying on devices for information.
And the gullible ones believing what some device has told them.
That, to me, is not a way to educate yourself, at least in part.
I've mentioned plenty of times about the controlling aspects of new technology, the dependency that it has formed upon society.

And I don't give two craps about someone criticizing me for "living in the past" or trying to change my views about something.
Because I don't know about others, but I plan to keep my own feet on solid ground.

Agreed. I remember how the Internet was a few years ago before AI really started getting involved everywhere. Having instant answers is going to make people be lazy and not be as interested in going on a "hunt" for an answer and putting in the effort to get what they are looking for. I completely agree with you. I don't like all these "AI" and "Smart" Features I see on Appliances.

Whenever I have a place to call my own, I won't be buying Modern Junk for the most part.

The worst I've seen is AI moderation which is nearly everywhere on almost every platform. AI moderation is not only widely hit or miss, but also a gatekeeper of information (some of which is blatantly false) which will potentially delete anything it does not agree with.

Imagine a world where AI will not let you use a certain cycle or hot water because it deems you as being a threat to the environment.

I like having complete control over my machine and to use as much water as I deem needed.

Let me tell you one thing, don't ever buy a brand new LG washer. I bought a brand new one earlier this year and it died after only around 10 months of using it, the transmission snapped, and it was so loud it shook the whole house when it broke. It sounded like a bomb went off. It would have been too complicated and too expensive of a repair so I bought the base model Hotpoint, which is still electronic of course, but at least it allows me to manually set the water level.

I HATE calling any place you need to speak with a real person and cant get thru their AI answering system that refuses to let you thru and if and when, you are sent to a representative greeted by "We are experiencing higher than normal call volume".

You and me both Tim! When I get those voice activated telephone trees that tell me to press this or that number for various selections that NEVER come close to what I’m calling about I’ll say agent please, and then they’ll want to know what I want an agent for and they NEVER understand what I’m asking for. Then I’ll start loudly saying agent, agent, agent and press “0” repeatedly until they finally connect me with a human that is almost always in some other country.

I despise calling almost all companies now because of the frustrating lack of customer service. And I really hate ChatBot for customer service, most of the time it’s a complete waste of time.

Tens of thousands or more people have been put out of the telephone agent jobs that used to be filled by humans.

Just calling my Verizon main phone number, I've got to "press 1,2,3, etc. answer a question to some computer, then Finally get to speak with a real person to discuss my reas for the call.
Highly annoying!
