Thought id share my latest new toy which I got yesterday from the 2nd hand shop in Crewe.

Seen it for a few weeks and been dubvious about getting it but I just had to yesterday!

Thinking of collecting Kenwood chefs, I already have a 1979 model I inherited off Nana about 11 years ago when it became too heavy for her and she preffered to use her Kenwood Cheffette or Kenwood Food Processor.

Kenwood Chef - darn forgot model number! eeek! meant to write it down before I came out.

Anyway pics for ya all to see.
Thought id toss in Mums Mixer and varoius other bits knocking about the kitchen.

Kenwood - It Spits as it Pumps as it Squelches...!!!

Hi Rob, congrats on getting a Kitchen Classic, real powerhouses, although not as high wattage as later ones, the gearing gives them excellent torque...yours is a 701 from the late 60`s early 70`s, that cream maker is something isnt it...an Instore Demonstrator I worked with used to say it should have the slogan "It Spits as it Pumps as it Squelches...LOl

The recipe is simple, 100g of slightly salted butter, (I know, trust me) and 100ml of milk...melt the butter, add to milk, mix and pour into cream maker, turn to speed number 3, adjust yellow nozzle until resistence is felt and a squelching squirt is happening, ...place cream in fridge till chilled,

Laundress, the older ones are very heavy being cast metal, and in the 60`s it boasted 27 boxed attachments, a friends mum had them all on open shelves in her kitchen, all in the boxes, and used them as well, I was just amazed as a kid seeing all these things. This one handles all the bread dough you can throw at it and is perfect for making Christmas Cakes & Puddings to the original Mrs.Beeton recipe. (very heavy but yummy).

Mike that is a very interesting recipe, does this make like a coffee cream or is it used to make ice cream. Either way it looks good to me. What time is coffee?? Terry

They are good mixers. I just gifted mine to a very good friend of my mom who does a lot of baking and had her kitchen refurbished. She's originally from the UK as well like mom. For attachments it had the blender and the berry press and the food processor attachment. As well I've an old 901 or 900..the original Kenwood style still in remarkably good condition, works like new and I have the blender, mincer, can opener and sausage stuffer to go along with it. I'll keep it.
Oddly though I never remember anyone every having one over here though they were imported they seldom show up.

Wow!

Thanks Mike for the text message meaning I would whip up some cream this afternoon whilst waiting for my cakes to bake in the oven....

I love my new one to bits, more than Nanas im slightly ashamed to say. Perhaps Nanas will get less use now I have this and I can keep it for special occasions and sentiment.
Her kitchens not really the same without a Philco washer and the Chef standing in the corner with its floral cover over it.
Still a bit too much for me to visit even 4 years on after her passing, rather remember the good times we had from memories than visit and get all frustrated and choked up.

Anyway I did make some cream, guessing at the same time you made some too? or is that a stock photo?

Mike

Your right about the splashing and squelching! #I put the cream thru twice cos the butter was not very well mixed in. should of whisked them togetjer in the jug first.

Great fun though! ENjoyed every minute of it

Kenwood Creamery

Hi Rob, I`ve put the mix through a couple of times myself, always gets good results, then after chilling, whip for a few secs with the ballon whisk...

Hi Terry, coffee is anytime...Lol, but only made in a Russell Hobbs Perc, The Kenwood makes normal cream for pouring or whipping, teatime trifles & cakes!!!, now on the newer machines there is an ice cream making freezer bowl, can you imagine the calories that will add!!!

Mike

Thanks Mike, I bet that cream is wonderful!! Oh I do love perked coffee too, so you just never know...Terry

the older Kenwood mixers are pretty neat-remind me of older Kitchen Aids.On the hunt for some older Kewnwood to go with my newer ones. One under "Rival",another under "DeLonghi" and a third under "Viking"Like them better than KA.

Cream Making Attachment

Very interesting how diverse the attachments of mixers are. I have read in some cookbooks how to take light cream and add butter make it heavy whipping (adding butterfat) cream. I never knew before there was a mixer attachment to make cream from milk and melted butter. I have had no difficult finding varying butter fat creams. I was a little surprized of the need of such an accessory.
