Any thoughts on All powdered detergent. I bought a box to use in my new Speed Queen T/L when it arrives. I figured it's okay to use powder with hot water washes.
It's the Free/Clear version.

Let us know

How it works.
Just saw the movie "Yours Mine and Ours" with Lucille Ball, and Henry Fonda. (1968) There is a scene where they are shopping in a grocery store, and she has two big boxes of powdered "All" in the basket.

Rich - I think most powders are controlled suds now. One exception I'm aware of is Era Powder, but recent uses of P&G and Sun powders (Surf, but not All) seem to make suds much less than their counterparts of a couple years ago before they were compacted.

I think in the move to make more and more detergents cross-compatible in HE or non-HE machines, we'll be seeing less and less suds from powders and liquids.

My Mom used All for years and years for its controlled sudsing with our water softeners, until Fresh Start came along, and then she still bought All from time to time.

Funny that you mentioned Era powder. I was thinking of picking up a box and trying it. I looked for it at the stores where I saw it before but there wasn't a box to be found. Decided to check out the website, and didn't see it in the products list.

I've found it...

I've seen Era Powder at Sams Club. I think it's supposed to be very sudsy because there's no HE logo on the box, and it mentions "Suds Action". Era, is Tide's (P&G) little Brother, and it has Enzymes. I'm sure it would preform very well.

Spiking it with a little, STPP would allow it to clean anything ;)

I've been using the All F&C liquid for some time now. I've heard that the powdered version has enzymes in it? This is because I have gotten my skin under control now I think it's the fragrances that are giving me the problems. I am wondering if the enzymes will cause a skin itch flare up?

One strange thing is that now that I am pretty much itch free, I seem even more sensitive to detergents than I was before.

I've been buying the All F&C (HE) for my front loader for over a year. It works well. Very easy to get it to suds (I remember when All small and mighty first came out I didn't have that problem). Perhaps it's the fact my town water supply has gotten softer.

I think they've added more surfactants to All S&M. I have one bottle around here, that's labeled "HE" however, one has found that the Suds will go up more then halfway up the door if Defoamer isn't added.

I do like the scent of the Regular All, though. Reminds me of the old days :)

I've had the same problem with All F&C when I first started using it. I use only 3/4 of a cap full (the cap line as reference) and I get a nice thin layer of suds which rinses out completely after two rinses. But it does clean very well.

Stan:

That was an old ad campaign from a year or so ago.

The search still continues for the powder here in Springfield, MO. If I can't find any this weekend, I'm going to call P&G on Monday and find out what the deal is.

Bill, call your local Sams Club, and have them send a associate to the back to look for it. Era is a interesting product line, as I've seen it bounce from different stores, and be next to impossible to find, turn up, and then leave. The Liquid stuff seems to be more readily available, then Powder.

Keep Looking. Try Kmart, Family Dollar, Possibly Target & Walmart. Sometimes even, Toys-r-us has hard to find P&G Items :)
