Speaking of German appliances have begun looking closely at AEG. One goes on about Miele all the time, but Hans de Grosser (my Oko-Lavamat) rarely is spoken about.

One had no idea AEG was all over the place. Locomotives, electronics, appliances, etc.. Suppose it they are no different than other conglomerates such as General Electric. But am surprised how soon it all went kaput, with Electrolux getting their mitts on the laundry appliance division.

Funny that you mention General Electric. Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft (AEG) means General Electricity Company. I think they have a lot in common.

Unfortunately they went into administration in 1982 and the company was sold to Daimler Benz in 1985. The brand name was sold off to Electrolux in 1996. From then on the quality of AEG appliances went down hill according to many people. Personally I think they started cheapening their appliances already after the purchase by Daimler Benz.

AEG spin dryer

Bought from eBay as parts donor for twin tub washer with spin dryer issues but its too nice and has been lovingly looked after by its owner from new in 1957 who used it for spinning terry nappies/diapers for the gentleman who sold it to me from his mothers estate.
