All the discussion on Hamilton equipment got me to recall a washer and dryer my Aunt had when I was little. I seem to recall it being a Hamilton set. This set would have been from the early to mid '50s. I recall it had a slider rather than a knob to turn on both the washer and the dryer. In my memory I see a reddish brown knob set. does this sound familiar to anyone? I think they lasted till about '67 when she got a Kenmore 800 avocado set.

The second washer we had as I was growing up was a Hamilton, I'd guess about '62, but at that point it was a Norge rebadge. Had a red lint filter on the agitator. Come to think of it perhaps the Hamilton I recall that my Aunt had was a Norge Timeline based Hamilton, it was similar in setup.

Hamiltons always fascinated me too, Matt, and I don't kn

Very interesting and enticing control panels. Got a kick out of the text, saying to select the perfect drying "Weather." You know this is the 50's when some people were morphing out of outdoor drying, and weather was the determining factor.

Beautiful pix, Guys.

Peter, fun and cool to learn you're such devoted dryer fan.

Wait a minute, didn't Hamilton invent the automatic clothes dryers???? So,why would Norge be making clothes dryers for the company that introduced them?? I know for a fact the Hamilton made the original Frigidaire dryers and that they too made a few under the Hotpoint label. So,why would Norge make dryers for Hamilton??

@ Mickey -- I'm with you. There is just something fascinating about them...

@L'mat -- You have it backwards. Hamilton was a stand alone company without a washer. They sourced the washers from Norge. When WCI got them, the washers were WCI Franklins until they killed the brand.

Hamilton Washer

Does anyone have one of the Hamilton Washers? I can't recall ever seeing one in person.

That is my Grandmother's first set of automatics & the only dryer that she ever had. The washer caught fire during a laundry day approx 1977 or '78 and in came a center dial 'Tag. I would LOVE to see that washer up close and personal again. I am fasinated as well with Hamilton pairs...The dryer brings back memories of sitting on the basement floor watching the clothes tumble with the light (if I remember correctly) to the left and the flame of gas to the right...I used to love to slide the lint tray out of the bottom and clean it with the brush I assume was provided by Hamilton. I "swear" her dryer had identical rust marks to the one in the picture above...That was probably the only dryer I really loved. Never gave much thought to dryers other than that one.

Dblrinz, I remember that long handled brush too, in fact I might have stashed it somewhere when the dryer was decommissioned. As a little kid I would watch the clothes tumble in the dryer, and I remember loving the look of the "blue" bulb.
