Hey all I’ve got a fun dilemma! So my older tl Whirlpool washer died - was told it was an expensive transmission failure? And my wp dryer also died within a few weeks.
I scrambled and bought a used but still under warranty SQ TR3. Right away it needed a new control board(?) which was fixed quickly and for free. Since then I’ve been happy with how quiet it is, and washing on autofill has been surprisingly effective. I paired it with an old used whirlpool dryer. That needed a new motor and now it’s making some kind of swooshing sound as it revolves. Also a rope like strip is coming off the inside back of the drum. No idea what that is. But it still works.
Anyway, I stopped by a local thrift store and spotted a matched set speed queen from 2010. They look immaculate and hardly used. Still had original installation and manuals inside. Top load washer was $99 and dryer was $199. I bought them on the spot.
I love having a matched set as my laundry is out in the open and visible from the kitchen. They look and work fabulous! I moved the TR3 and WP to the garage for now.
My question is: are the 2010s a decent year for longevity? They’re pretty old but don’t look it. Should I keep the TR3 instead for the newer tech and warranty? I’m tempted to keep one hooked up in the garage as a second washer but don’t think I can justify that lol. I am wondering about how repairable the 2010 modals are?
Thanks for any opinions!
