Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

have

done one load of white tea towels, dishcloths and hand towels on a short cotton 60 deg wash. Everything came out clean and white. Will update when I have tried it out some more.

Almat

Ive used their Powder once but I prefer the bio/colour tablets as i can use one tablet per wash and top up the drawer with some soda crystals, and the wash still comes clean.

Almat powder to me tends leaves clumps in the drawer, was good at cleaning, using Lidls Formil Bio powder at the moment which is excellent and saves me money.

Love Aldis softeners especially the naturals range, using the macadamia oil conditioner which smells fantastic, and its very light too, and just gives me a light hit of fragrance.

I may try their 2in1 blue box powder which is tropical oasis when i next need to get detergent as i have loads already.

Well,

Have done a few loads with this powder and the results were quite pleasing. I had to put the powder in the drum as Zanussilover said it does not flush away and clumps terribly. Just done a load of white clothing, Tshirts, socks, underwear at 50 deg. I was shocked to find it had not got the bottoms of my socks clean ( they weren't very dirty in the first place ) so it is back to Persil for me.

All in all Almat powder is ok, not too keen on the smell, alright if you are on a tight budget but would certainly need a stain remover to boost performance.

Just finsihed using the 2 in 1 variant.

What a load of crap that is.Ended up using it to wash woolens delicates and coloureds. Very little cleaning power for whites so been on ariel tablets for that.

Have tried and tried with supermarket powders and when all said and done you just cant beat Ariel Persil or Daz when it comes to whites.

50*c Paul?? LOL. get it turned up another 45*c. dirty beggar. :P

Rob,

I to have tried just about every detergent out there but always end up going back to Persil.....I should know better by now but can never resist trying something new. My sister loves it as she gets all the detergent I don't use!

I don't think my undies would stand a 95 wash!!!!!

I was never entirely sure whether it was the washer or the detergent that made Almat - my Mother's choice of powder - a so-so performer. Thank you for confirming it's the powder!

The clumping in the drawer is my least favourite aspect. I thought Mum had aborted a wash last time I went home and checked the machine - it was just one great mushy lump! Not great when the rinsing water is flowing through it.

Given my parents are now heavily retired I don't suppose there will be any change in powder, however...busy watching the pennies these days.

You'd think it wouldn't be too bad at stain removal with a fairly high oxygen bleach content.

Currently, I am trying out ordinary Persil powder for whites. I'm not normally a fan of Persil - if only for the fact it's the scent I seem to notice a lot of other people's clothes (more so the Small and Mighty liquid - but that's another matter)...and who wants to smell commonplace? The scent is perfectly fine in the abstract, if rather pervasive - certainly no less noticable than Ariel - and my bedroom is very much being perfumed from the one load I've used it on! The cleaning performance was as expected for a premium brand.

Now as for advising washing whites at 95*C almost regardless of the fabric, well...I just don't fancy all that extra ironing on anything easy care (I've seen people ruin bedlinen by running it through the boil wash). Tried it once and the underwear has never been the same since; your caution is wise, Paul. The less white whites weren't really improved either and much of the stitching in seams went yellow. Still, far be it from me to deprive others of their vices...and very white whites!

I have tried it in the past; the non bio never suited my skin, which is a bit fussy.
I have to stick to Persil non bio.

Daz Tablets....

....were recently rated best performers on Which so I bought some and gave them a go. I have to report that on whites, particularly kitchen linen, table napkins and the like the stain removal has been superb. The fact that it is cheaper than Ariel and Persil was an added bonus!

Ariel ....

has always been the best in my opinion and as its been on offer in the local JTF warehouse I have a spare one as well...:) 120 wash box for £11.99 + vat and they had 5 ltr of Lenor summer breeze for £4.99 + vat so thats not bad! Must admit though have got a box of Ariel colour same size and cost as the others but am sceptical as always had powder mark issues when using with blacks so have tended to use liquid.
In the same warehouse I found a bottle of Radion super concentrate bio liquid have used it to wash the dog bedding and its surprisingly good really cheap too also got a bottle of Almat bio liquid and its scent reminds me of Ariel liquid will have to see if its as good?

Ariel

I always used to like Ariel until they changed the scent and it became a strong piney lemony scent. I like the smell of Ariel Colour Powder as it smells like Ariel Bio used to. As much as it may clean well, I like my laundry lightly fragranced, not overpowering.

@hoovermatic, do you have the latest Which? detergent test results for 2012

I love Daz tablets as they smell good, but haven't used them in a while, i used to use them years ago, they have that vintage 90s Daz Automatic scent.

Hoovermatic

Thanks for taking the time to type out all that info. I gave up my subscription to Which? when my hubby lost his job last year. Now he is working again I maybe will re-subscribe.

Interesting to see Daz tablets performed better than Persil Bio Tablets. No mention of any Bold products though, I presume they did not test them. As I have probably mentioned before I love the smell of "blue" Bold but it sends my machine into a tizzy with suds lock with a big load of cottons. Also cleaning wise it could be better.

Back to the Aldi flavour of the thread, I noticed tonight they have repackaged their concentrated laundry liquid range slightly but no mention if it is due to an improved formula.

paulc

I think Bold wasnt tested as it was a 2in1 detergent, noticed Fairy wasnt tested either, or Almat Powder/Liquid nor was Ariel Excel Gel or Bold Gel tested either.

and Daz powder wasn't in there either, but the tablets were.

I noticed that Almat has changed their liquid and made it like Persil (effective in 30 minutes)

zanussi_lover

I didn't realise that about Almat liquid, I only spied the bottles from across the store when I was at the check out so didn't get a close look. Am just of to Aldi now so will have a closer inspection!
