Almat detergent

The new Almat liquid is quite good, haven't had a chance to test it on anything really dirty though. Think I'll just use it for joggers and T shirts I wear in the house. Smells quite nice.

Was in Saninsburys yesterday and bought a small box of Ariel powder as I was getting bored of Persil. I must say it did not smell as strong as the last time I used it and didn't foam as much either. Also it appears to whiten better than Persil.

I recently bought some Aldi Bio liquid, and it did smell quite nice, unfortunately I did a load of colours with it, and when i put on one of my tops, i was itching like mad, had to rewash my clothes in another detergent.

Got some Daz tablets because they got 87% and pleased to say that they are exceptional, I washed my mums new white cotton bedding which had hair dye on the pillowcases and it came out perfectly and the bedding was sparkling, and the smell is amazing, i prefer the scent of Daz to Ariel, unless its Ariel Colour powder.

Sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to the Almat Liquid. I have to be careful with fabric softner, some of the heavily perfumed ones make me itch like crazy!!

I will maybe give Daz tablets a try when my Ariel runs out.

Yes, the Daz tablets are great. I'm proud to have sparkling whites when I put them on the line, they look so great compared to everyone elses yellow dingy whites which are all washed together with darks on a cold wash.

Ive started to dry dark washing on the clothes horse inside now the weather is getting warmer, so my coloureds dont fade.

As for fabric softener, I dislike strong smelling ones, the supermarket own brand ones tend to make me itch, but I'm alright with Aldis ones and Comfort Lenor.

What detergent do you think works best with an artifical water softner and rinses the best? I do not like the smell of Persil small and mighty colour gives me a headache and i am forever rinsing the liquid out. Does anyone find rinsing with liquids very difficult? And do you use a detergent for colours only or do you think the all in ones make colours fade with the optical brighteners. I am sure Ariel and Persil were more soap based than they are now so perhaps thats why they foam alot more today. Regarding fillers do you find that makes a difference to rinisng?

If you look on the Unilever website most of the powders have very few active ingredients and not value for money in my oppinion! Sodium sulfate seems to be the first ingredient in Persil Bio powder.

I don't have a detergent stash, just gave a load of stuff away to my sister including the Almat Bio powder and Almat liquid.

Liberator deluxe, I have no experience of water softeners. As mentioned previously I am currently using Ariel powder for my whites and Excel Gel for everything else ( apart from woolies, I have Woolite for those). I stopped using Ariel as it used to send my machine into suds lock on just about every load, also my hubby didn't like the smell. I think Ariel now is a lot less foamy and doesn't seem to have such an over powering smell.

I have on occasion bought detergent specifically for colours but usually I just use a liquid or a gel.

Hi Paul,

Can i ask how do you rate stain removal of laundry liquids by own brands like Almat compared to Ariel or Persil?

Ben,

I am afraid I can't really help you on that one. The load I did with the Almat liquid didn't have any stains.

I have found Ariel Excel gel to be slightly better at stain removal than Persil but it's performance seems to drop off at higher temps ie over 40deg.

Fillers

Does anyone know if liquid laundry detergents contain fillers? If you put some detergent liquid i.e. Persil s+m in clear water it goes cloudy. Does that mean it contains fillers?

Had to try that one myself, after a little stir it doesn't for Persil S&M Non bio, but other varients may change. Jacob
