as a teen, around 1982-85,my local fm rock station used to
"sign off"at 12:00am on weekdays 2:00am weekends,so in order
to keep the music going in the self-built"fort"building i had
constucted and spent summer(and a few winter) nights in,i had
to turn to AM and tune around to see what i could pick up-
best radio for this was a transistor/tube '58 chevy radio.
in northeastern wyoming at the time,WLS89 chicago was a fave
as was KIMN denver(95 as i recall)also could sometimes get
CHAB saskatchewan,mexico,and in 1984 especially,the breakdance
/electric bugaloo stuff would come in LOL
Starting in 1997,i used to listen to Art Bell on am 1500
minneapolis using a 1962 stomberg/carlson tuner
on weekdays program was on too late so i used a GE reel+reel
on it's lowest speed to record for playback the next day
-would have to set the timer and "cock"the recorder-actually
worked pretty good!
