Am I losing it?

I had a very nice day puttering round the house, unpacking stuff etc etc. This evening about 7pm I told my other half I was off to Home Depot to pick up some wood for shelves in my workshop and off I trot. They had some nice pine but not 10 foot lengths I was looking for, plus they were helpful but I thought I'd go check the more local hardware/building center up the street and off I went. Besides I figure if I can get it there I'm supporting a local biz. So in I go, over to the lumber area and see some particle board shelving planks with a melamine finish in black for only $4.99. Great deal.. so I ask the guy if they come in white also.. Yes he says,, Same price I ask.. Yes he says and points me down the aisle. So I truck down the aisle and hafta manhandle these two white pieces off the upper rack, no help. I gingerly get them up to the front cash where the lady rings them in.. That'll be $20 something she says.. Wait I exclaim, the guy in lumber said they were $4.99 each same as the black ones..Price Check she calls over her phone and along comes the guy. Oh those are $8.99 each he says.. No I said.. you just told me they were the same price as the black ones. No they're $8.99.. Well here you can keep em and I stormed out after I threw them in his arms.
Is it just me going nuts or what, I'm afraid if this keeps happening I won't have anywhere left in town to shop

Well I wasn't afraid LOL.. actually I was biting my tongue from saying to him " If you'd said it was $8.99 I wouldn't have bothered lugging the f in things halfway across the store now would I." but I'm trying to be nicer these days and being sorely tested. LOL

The holidays are getting a bit too much under your skin. Take some time out to chill and have a drink (unless of course you have a drinking problem).

I gave up shopping at K-Mart years ago because they always have 17 checkout lanes but only maybe 2 open, and then in the middle of someone's transaction, something inevitably goes wrong, and the sales clerk never has authority to handle it, and it always takes 30 minutes for the manager to mosey up and straighten it out. After that pattern got too repetitive, I stopped shopping at K-Mart.

Your frustrating experience brings to mind a story I have to tell. Once, when I was grocery shopping with a friend, he walked up to a refrigerated case which had three different types of hams on sale at three different prices. He selected one in the cheapest-price bin. At the checkout, the sales clerk checked all of his groceries and picked the ham up last. Without even scanning it, she barked, "This isn't the ham that's on sale." It was not the tone to use with him. Not at all. He barked that it was. She insisted it wasn't. That went back and forth several more rounds. Then she rolled her eyes, sighed, rattled the newspaper ad around, and started an argument about which bin the ham came from. Suddenly his eyes started opening up wide, getting huge, and popping out of his face. I knew him well enough to know that was a sign his temper was about to spew, and it did. He shouted, "If you aren't going to honor your ad, then I'm going to report your false advertising to the Attorney General, and in the meantime, you can take these groceries and shove 'em up your ass, ONE AT A TIME!!!!" I don't think I've ever had a harder time not laughing. In fact, I immediately heard Archie Bunker shout, "STIFLE!" My friend didn't think it was one bit funny. I was terrified that if I laughed, the tempest would turn on me, so I chomped down on my lips as hard as I could and tried my best to focus on driving to distract myself from it, but by the time I pulled up to his house and he was ready to get out of the car, I finally looked over to say good bye. Suddenly I busted out laughing so hard that I couldn't inhale and I began to fear that I was going to suffocate. At that point, he finally lightened up and laughed too. But we never went back to that store. I didn't dare to suggest it.

Why be nice? LoL...I understand where your coming from..I have to bite my tonge alot as well..Usualy i just get po'd enough and say "Just forget it, i figure something else out" in a very angry tone or "No, this is what i was told, if you don't like it, then forget it" and leave...I can get the Italian-Irish in me going and become hell on heels so to speak

I remember once I asked a slack-jawed imbred at Home Depot how he found his D**K at night because he was totally clueless about answering my questions, all I was trying to buy was a toilet seat!!

Relax and chill, have a glass of wine, and remember, its not the guy's fault at Home Depot that his parents are brother and sister.

The "Big Box Stores" can do you in, now on the other hand, you have to trust who is your director in the Mom and Pop.

As far as Home Depot, "You can do it" "We can F..k you up", that holds true to the day and hour for that matter.

Ace is well known, in this area, to be the place to go to if you want to pay a buck a nail and the sales help is allmost as useless. It's normally a couple of bubble headed bimbos, at the register, that couldn't pass a blood test if they studied!!

Life can be a series trade off. None worth getting an ulcer over

Rich I'd agree with that statement to a degree, I have two Ace stores within a mile of me, and while pricey I have gotten good service at both stores without the attitude, so I don't mind paying a little more.
I have to admit paying $35 a gallon for paint just about made me pass out, but the colors were matched and mixed right, I didn't have to deal with a croed, and the guy who waited on me knew his stuff.
Like you say its a trade off.

Mine isn't all that expensive... I paid $100 per vanity/fake marble formocasttop in my bathrooms and $35 a pop for the faucets... Compared to lowes $125 and Home depots $145..Got my medicince cabinet, which i put stuff in for the first tim ever, for $9.95, most all of the fans in my house came from there, none cost over $75... BTW, $35 a gallon for paint? OY@ I paid $25 at ours....

BTW, I would skip the drinks and request a little extra lube ! Wouldn't want it to hurt all that bad now would I?

I once got a SS range-hood where the display area of the Stainless steel ones was marked the same price as the painted ones. Some $40 thing when it should have been nearer $80. It was a BAH-GAIN! That was a SNATCH-AND-RUN, if you'll pardon the expression.

I don't drink much, but thats true, i become quite loose when i drink....

I got the Pioneer CD player in my truck from target for $55 when it was orig. $155 because they stuck it in the wrong spot... Imagine the horror of the manager when saw it.. He immidetialy gave me the lower price and whent back anc chewed some ass out!
