Why in this day and age can we not vote from our home on our pc's, valid ssn, valid state id or drivers license? I dont think anyone is in the mood this year for a recount or any voter freaky-sneaky period. Maybe if we try it one year and it works, we might even entertain on voting on big time stuff like wool durability, wooden arrows, and lower taxes on jamaican rum. and whatever happened to that "line item veto" they talked about years ago? yes i would of caved and bailed the economy but not the above. end of rant: why are the experts that let this money mess develop, now figuring out what to do with the bailout money??? Now we all have jobs, more than likely your not getting your lousy 3% increase. so why ain't prime players in this, not in jail, and why are they still in their offices. Lets vote on that too. alr2903

Vote from a PC?

I know that I am really old fashioned. I think we should still go to the polling place. We should be proud to vote, and take time to vote. And our employers should be happy to allow us this. I have never voted absentee, and never will unless I am forced to. I will ALWAYS go to the polling station. But, that is just me. I thought absentee voting was for the people who PHYSICALLY could not get to the polls, like the elderly or disabled, not for the people who just didn't want to bother going. I prefer to take the time to experience voting. But that is just me. To each his own!

A vote is a vote. What difference does the voting method make?

Online voting would save billions in gasoline and lost time.

I'd love to also see us abolish the House of Representatives, and let Americans individually vote on how their tax dollars are spent. But that's another discussion.

Here in WI one can vote absentee without being physically unable to go to the polls, or out of town on Election Day. My wife & I have already cast our votes via absentee ballots, for the simple reason that neither one of us wanted to wait in line for 90+ minutes in our precinct like during the last Presidential election.

~and let Americans individually vote....

There are individiuals and groups in this country that can trace their lineage back to the U.S for 200 years and other that arrived yesterday. Yet many can't read, write, get one sentence out eloquently or pronounce simple words. Many can't run their own little lives well, nevermind making massive decisions...........

In my own city there are those that don't have a bank account and won't/can't get a job. And considering some people come to my city primarily for the variety of job opportunites on every level, that's a bit scary.

I'd say the problem with poltical office and those who want to own a gun is.... those who crave it and seek it out are the exact peole who should not have or be one.

I'm all for a better and more unified voting methods. Voting varies state by state.

Now if we were to say get rid of the electoral college I'd hop on and ride that one..........

We are no where

near being able to vote from a PC. There are still to many possible problems with electronic voting that have not been worked out. Absentee voting is as close as it can be right now. I sent mine in last week to avoid the lines. Yes, in this case you are reaching for something that is not possible with current technology. Remember there has to be a way to archive the voting records (one of the problems with eletronic voting)for future generations.

After the 2000 election mess the Justice Department pulled voting records for several states going back to 1960 for the Supreme Court to review. They wanted the actual paper copies of all the records. Currently electronic media still has to many ways information can be manipulated to alter the records.

Keep in mind that even the electronic voting record is stored in a pdf method (until it can be printed out) and that is very easy to alter. For verification reasons and academic research it's important to keep the hard copy of these records.

C = campaign/count

Lou Dobbs/CNN just showed the no paper trail states on a map tonight 10-21-08. Also shown are several early voting states already REPORTING VOTING IRREGULARITIES. alr2903
