I have an Issue with the lid switch on my Amana washer. I attempted to bypass it and once I messed with it, it won’t agitate or spin (the switch disables everything except fill). I put it back together/rewired it and it still won’t work. Any ideas? I tried to take photos to show what I’m talking about....

Thanks.

Wiring Diagram

So here’s the best picture I could get of the diagram — I never really understood these things.

In answer to your questions, yes, the washer will fill, and I can hear the timer after the washer has filled to the desired level. However, no agitation. Once the timer advances to spin, the timer stops.

Could I have shorted something out in the timer mechanism by trying to bypass the lid switch? The machine worked fine until I cut those wires, and now, even with them put back the way they were, I have this problem.

Thank you for your reply and hope I can get this fixed!

The picture is too small Todd, I can read the color codes, can you take a close up this section? Also do you have a multi-meter to test to see if voltage on coming across the wires? I highly doubt you shorted out anything.

Is This More Legible?

Sorry, my iPhone and iPad don’t take great pictures...as the guy I’m seeing says, “get rid of your CrApple!”

Anyway, I think this might be clearer. Many, many thanks for your time in trying to help me with this. Although My Amana washer and matching dryer aren’t spectacular, I hate to see this go to the crusher because I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Thanks again!

Lol, it's clearer but I didn't realize it didn't show wire colors in that right side section, it's the section on the left that does that. So when I blow up the original you posted it appears to me that it says the lid switch is the wire colored pink with blue tracer line that couples with white with a black tracer. The tracer is the foreground color line btw. It looks to me that you have the white/black tracer wire connected to another white wire and not the pink/blue wire. Are you sure that white wire (with lettering visible on that white wire) came from the lid switch?

The Amana Lives!!!

Well, I am quite embarrassed to have finally found out why the lid switch (bypass) wasn’t working. So many thanks to Robert for helping me out with the wiring diagram. This afternoon, I was finally fed up with it because it just didn’t make sense that just because I disconnected the lid switch created such a problem. So I took the dashboard/control panel apart and lo and behold, the lid switch wire had come disconnected. I reconnected it, bypassed the lid switch, and all is well with the Amana.

Not one of my favorite machines (it’s a Speed Queen rip off), but it’s a work horse and has a lovely sound, so it’s saved from the crusher (along with its matching twin, the dryer).
