Hello, Amana LWA65AW, MFG NO. PLWA65AW, SERIAL # R 9903042159. T/L. guys I have had it 7 years ,leaking like a sieve at the bottom of tub. Is this a fix or replace? I did take the front off to see where the water is coming from it's a pencil lead size flow leaking on to the transmission, I do not know who amana was at this time, raytheon, goodman or whoever. it's not plastic it has a porcelain outer drum. what do you all think? how much should this cost to repair? Kind of dissappointed @ this problem at the seven year mark. Thanks alr2903.

Arthur, it may not be worth it. This is a design flaw that has become apparent. I do believe this is what cratered Anthony's (angus) machine after only a couple of years. Tub seal.

Arthur - sounds like you have a Raytheon built machine. Mine was from 2000 and had a plastic outer tub. Definitely the first generation of Goodman built machines. It is a time consuming fix (invloves taking most of the machine apart)and one that many repairmen might not want to do. I guess it depends on how attached you are to that machine.

Sorry - I didn't read all of the question. It will probably run a few hundred dollars - most of it being labor. I am going to guess approximately $300 or so...

Thanks Bob and Anthony

I bought the mid line Fridgidaire, at a local furniture store less than $300.00, Anthony after reading bobs post last night i looked at your profile, so am i to understand you got much less service from your Amana than 7 years sorry to hear. I guess it had been leaking a while before i noticed it we pulled the linoleum up off the back porch, there was mold under it. the lineolum was a remant, only went about 6 inches under the front of the machine and that was what kept the leak disguised. amana to the curb, the concrete floor is freshly white painted, now that it has been mopped with bleach and thoroughly dry. we will get the frigidaire this week. probably thursday. I looked at some others but could not bring my self to plunk down the plastic. with hurricane season fast approaching, so i just paid it with our house appliance kitty CASH. Bob I did get to speak to to Todd this last week. he is busy and well. Anthony in this city, you can't ask too much from any service person if you can even get one. so will see how the little $300.00 fridgi works out. Bob, Angus thanks for the heads up. I had read posts ,amana leaking, mine probably was for quite some time thanks for the input guys. arthur.

Funny - every appliance repairperson around here has commented about how much improved the new Frigidaire top loaders are. So, maybe you will get good long service out of yours Arthur.

Funny--just last week my sister noticed her circa 2000 Amana ALW880QAW (plastic outer tub) leaking, making noise, and smelling like burning rubber. I looked at it last Sunday and sure enough, it was leaking from the tub seal...and that seemed to have ruined the spin bearing, as it spun very slowly, the belt slipping. I was only in town for the weekend so I didn't have time to work on it and I told her it wouldn't be worth the expense to pay someone.

Needless to say, she was in a fury. They bought this 5-year-old house a year ago and have had to replace the dishwasher (which was a Frigidaire-made Amana tall tub), and now the washer.

So she's shopping for a WP toploader this week--she said she just wanted something that would do the wash and not give her trouble. And motor couplers can be replaced in a snap!
