Ad: This older model Amana two-door freezer/refrigerator is light beige in color. It has has a zero-degree freezer section. It makes ice very rapidly. It has adjustable glass shelves in the lower section. When I got it home to repace my old referigerator, I discovered the doors open the wrong way for my kitchen. For the last 5-years it has been running outside on my screened porch; I have used it just to make bottled water ice for the house. and the freezer section. A friend bought the Amana new; I got it from him when he moved away. I'm moving so now I'm selling it. It works just fine except the automatic ice maker water valve is bad. It's not the latest fashion statement in refrigerators, but it's a perfectly good reliable referigerator with an excellent freezer section, and it's cheap. Call anytime "

Yep, that's what I'm looking for, just in White.

I'm amused at the seller's mention that it is "not the latest fashion statement in refrigerators." It was once, which should tell a thinking person that today's "latest fashion statement" will one day be as passé as she thinks this Amana is now.

P.S.:

Don't anyone tell Miss Fashion Expert, but those doors reverse.

The secret? Those "L"-shaped handles get turned upside down when you move the handles from one side of the door to the other. The freezer door handle becomes the fridge door handle, and the fridge door handle goes on the freezer door. The logos snap in and out to be in the right positions when the handles are moved.

However, I learned a long time ago that reversing a fridge door of any design is Rocket Science as far as most people are concerned.

Oh, And....

....If I ever found one of these early enough to have the non-textured doors, that would be the icing on the cake.

I hate textured fridge doors.

Yeah, rocket science, apparently - I asked for our apt GE refrigerator to have the door reversed, and the answer was, "we'll have to find another refrigerator..and yours looks better than many...". I nodded and said, "that's ok, we'll live with it".(white lie....and I reversed it myself).

Me no like textured doors, either.

I saw many top-freezer refrigerators over the years that had the doors were sucessfully reversed, but the freezer handle was placed upside down when moved.    

 

It is rocket science.

.....Not to put in the last word, but rocket science is a stretch. A little visual study, patience and organization...and physical endurance (some gorilla milk). can go a long way. But then...that might actually take rocket science to possess. ! lol .

I'm Calling, Because....

....These things don't grow on trees, at least not in White.

At the risk of sounding like a princess, the one in Lincoln is larger and later than would be perfect, though. By this time, Amana had "defeatured" the trim a little bit, probably for cost-savings, omitting the garnish strip seen on the bottom edge of the freezer door and the top edge of the fridge door. And there is a bit of Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine in evidence; earlier ones didn't have that. Below is a Harvest example with the early trim I like.

And if I could find the perfect one, it would be a 14-cu.-ft. model; I live alone and don't need more capacity. I presently run a 24-cu.-ft. Kenmore belonging to the landlord, and I'm paying much more than I need to for fridge running costs. Still, 20 cubic feet is better than 24 for my needs.

At any rate, I'm following through, and all of you have my thanks for keeping your eyes peeled!

Missed It By THAAAT Much!

Below is a photo originally posted by Ben swestoyz, showing the kitchen of his house as it appeared during his first walk-through in 2006.

As you can see, an Amana 14 is sitting right there. Ben later told me it left when the sale went through.

Anyway, I laugh every time I run across this photo, because there was once an Amana 14, in White, sitting right here in Waterloo. I just wasn't around yet.

Absolutely nothing remains of the kitchen in the photo - Ben has since remodeled it from the ground up (to say nothing of the once-sagging ceiling down), and as many of you know, it is absolutely state-of-the-art beautiful now.[this post was last edited: 4/2/2014-12:29]
