I replaced the ice maker today on my 19 year old Amana fridge. It was easy to install but waiting for ice maker to cycle thru. How long before it makes the first batch of ice? I read on a web site the mold has to get down to around 14 degrees for it to start up. Is that true?

I had to replace an ice maker in my fridge and it said to be sure you fill the ice maker with water to sort of prime it, it will then freeze the water and get the ice maker on its way.

Just checked and the ice maker is working perfect!!!! $103.00 for a new ice maker is cheaper then paying $1000+ for a new fridge like my 21 year old niece who lives with us thought we should do.
