American Computer Dryer

I also have two of these machines in our old maids room at work. One machine seems to run normally and the other seems to have a bearing issue. I also have no idea how to operate the controls correctly. I usually just hit the letter B and it runs for a set time and I’ll do it again if stuff is not dry after the first run. I’d definitely like to know more about these and how to operate them correctly. I think they’re worth saving and continuing to use if possible. They haven’t been used in about 15 years or so.

Those dryers are now American Dryer Corporation (ADC) which is now part of Whirlpool. Not sure when ADC stopped marketing things as "Computer", but that likely referred to these dryers had microcomputers, something new at that time, but rather common nowadays. ADC was first to bring computer operated dryers to OPL/coin-op market IIRC.

Whirlpool bought ADC to get their mitts on commercial dryer technology and manufacturing in their quest for word domination far as laundry goes.

Those dryers look similar to current ADC model number AD-50. Second number in these series refers to capacity.

Looking closely at control panel of yours, it seems they may be what ADC called "Phase" models. These came in numbers 3, 4, and 5 (maybe more?) but were either OPL or coin operated and had various computer programmed cycles. Some models had reverse tumbling, others didn't.

The dryers via their computers could be programmed for various cycles.

If you can find model number (hopefully will be on rating plate somewhere on front of dryer), shoot customer service at ADC an email or telephone call asking if they will supply you with manuals. That or point you to where they can be found.

Years ago now Kitchenaid launched their "Pro Series" line of front load washers with matching dryers.

The dryers were made by ADC and likely were their Solaris models in disguise.
