No dear, Steve Gyrafoam got an immediate answer to his question. See his post about the color of the tub and the picture that was posted immediately after.

I won't go into details about what an "Erhaltungsanlage" could be. I think you mean an "Enthärtungsanlage" which is a water softener. Although now European dishwashers have one, at that time they were an accessorie that you would have to pay extra for. Some were built into the machine, others were separate salt containers through which the water went before entering the dishwasher. My Miele dishwasher has a separate water softener. Nice colour blue, cant remember them over here, but hey dishwashers only started to take off here in the eighties, before then it was a very TOL pricy product...

I`d never seen the tap arrangement in use until at Gregs this time, very neat...I think most dishwashers Europe side where big and heavy and designed to be built in...

Not like those Philips 80`s machines with the polypropelene tub and 10yr guarantee...now they did sell..

Louis...ask Steve to tell you about the "Princess Funeral Phone" and of course the "Jeesus Faans" (no blasphemy intended)..I`m still dining out on those stories, just burst into laughter thinking about them...

O.k.,o.k., The "Jesus fans" are not unusual to find at ANY funeral home in the U.S. during the summertime. I always tossed a few dozen or so in the hearse with me to pass out (mainly to the elderly) when we got to the cemetery. In the old days LOTS of the small country churches around here did not have airconditioning, so we took along a case or two of them. Just a stylized 6x6 inch piece of cardboard stapled to a small wooden handle. Usually with a picture of Jesus with his disciples and a prayer-----and of course----the funeral home name and phone number. Ours had the Lord's Prayer with a pair of hands clasped in prayer and a cross in the background (model#8516P). Hey, they are functional and good advertising!

Now the "Princess phones" are something else! (Florists in the U.S. are really inventive when it comes to funeral arrangements!) Usually a large floral stand (tri-pod) with a bank of flowers in the background. The body of a (fake) Princess phone (blue for men and "pank" for the ladies) is nestled in the flowers with the "reciever" of the phone dangling "off the hook". A broad length of ribbon cuts through the whole arrangement. On the ribbon, in silver or gold glitter it says: "Jesus called-----Momma answered" (or Daddy, or Sister, etc. whatever the case may be). These are VERY popular in the deep south of the U.S. especially with the "country folks". Not so popular in the "big city" but certainly well into the early 1990's we used to see dozens of them every day, many times for the same funeral! It was especially comical to have the remains "lying in state" in a beautiful cathedral, or in the rotunda of the state capitol, and have a dozen or so "princess phones" dangling around! Honey puleeeeeez!

Some of you, I hope, are fans of the truly wonderful writer Armistead Maupin. In "Sure of You," the last of the "Tales Of The City" books, Michael encounters the very same floral arrangement and ribbon at his father's service. Of course, being of "the brotherhood," (as I like to call it when I am being discreet {or cute}), he finds "Jesus Called--Herb Answered" to be incredibly camp. However, Michael is the only one there who "gets it," and he has to dash off to phone Thack, his guy.

(Jesus fans are familiar to me from my childhood. My church has done a lot of joint services with some of our region's black churches, and I find Jesus fans to be tenderly amusing.)

What is the purpose of that row of tines at the very top of the machine that is suspeneded from hooks in the tub?
(pic in the 5th panel down from the top)

What can be loaded there? Is that just to keep large items from scratching the tub's interior or can we actually hang a large cooking implements there?

I would love to know how the (water) seal works on these top-loaders that slide into the main cabinet [to function as a front-loader.]
