As you know, I've just moved into a new apartment. The HVAC set-up is intriguing, to say the least.
The living room and bedroom each have an American Standard RemotAire unit. There's no thermostat, just a 4-position Off-High-Med-Low switch. Below the coil is a drain pan with a 1/2" pipe leading down and out. I've been researching this and have found histories of the companies and how to order specific parts for the unit. But I've found nothing about the units themselves except that they were common in hotels in the 1960's. I've pulled the cover off one and looked around for some kind of model number or other info. I couldn't find anything.
The units put out A LOT of heat. I assume the switch is attached to a water pump because there's very little heat output when off. But as soon as I turn it on, I have a blast furnace.
I'm told there's heat for 6 months then a/c for 6 months building-wide.
Has anyone ever heard of these units? Is there some specific term I should use in my internet search?
Thanks,
Jim
