Ive seen quite a few films/tv shows where americans wash something but what I really want to know is....

Which washing machine (and Dyer) featured in HomeAlone?

I just love the way Kevin pours the cap of Tide in the machine - of which i notice is a clear liquid. Something unusual in the UK. All our liquids are generally some colour.

And without looking just swizzes the wash selector round! I hope he didnt put them jeans on a hot wash!

IIRC, Kevin goes to the store and buys the Tide detergent, but later tells his mom that he went to the store and bought fabric softener. I guess that's the kind of detail that only someone from this club would notice.

they should give us all jobs .....

in the "continuity" department!!!!
Massive salary in return for our immense knowledge of laundry equipment!!

i bought milk, eggs and fabric softener lol....

But do I spy an Uber sized box of Arm and Hammer detergent in front of the washer too?

Wait Until Dark

In the thriller "Wait Until Dark", Audrey Hepburn's character lives with her husband in a basement apartment. Her washing machine is in the kitchen area and appears to be a slant-front Westinghouse front loader. She is being terrorized by some hoods who are after a doll her husband brought back from Canada (stuffed with heroin, only she and her spouse don't know that fact). At one point, the doll is hidden in a bunch of soiled clothing inside the washer.

Any production of the stage play (a favorite for high school drama groups) requires a front-loading washer or facsimile, because of the special role the washer plays as hiding place for the doll.

ps

No, Betty Furness does NOT appear at the dramatic high point of the film to explain the features of Audrey Hepburn's Laundromat front loader. In any case, the film is from c. 1966 and the model depicted in the film appears to be from the 1950s (this is not an upscale apartment, it's in Greenwich Village before it became trendy and expensive).
