Ben came in last night to pick up the Maytag AMP washer and 60W dryer he won on Ebay last week. Words fail to describe the condition of this set. I came out of a house in Red Oak, Iowa. The man who sold them said he had two houses to tear down "in town" that were owned by a hoarder, and this set was in one of them. The lady bought a second house and spent the rest of her life filling it with stuff "for storage". Quite likely, this set was in that second property and never touched. Lonely and neglected, the washer needed and bit of tender coaxing to come out and play, but WOW, it's truly amazing. The video sound doesn't do the machine justice - other than pump noise, it's nearly silent.

!!!

Wow! So thats the tags you mentioned!

What a find! Those are really cool!

Was this "hoarder" in omaha? I remember there was someone on that "hoarders" show in town. Dont know if it was the same person.

Really neat, awesome clean machines there!

今天是中国的中&#38

Today is China's middle-fall holiday. To celebrate the annual harvest, the Chinese have a festival similar to our Thanksgiving. One of the traditional favorites is Moon Cakes for a special treat. After the thrift stores only gave up two Centura dinner plates (White Coupe) we stopped at the Asian market for noodles, wafer cookies and Moon Cake.

Wow those AMPs are to die for! The pump doesn't really sound all that bad. It just sounds like the remainder of the water that usually sits in the pump after the tub has been fully drained is gushing upwards, but not out. Happens in all of the helicals as well, but not nearly as loud as the posted video though.

That Bendix Power-Surge is awesome! Never seen one in action before.

Flappalation!!

I am amazed the rapid turn over of the Bendix. While I miss seeing an agitator with a post it's still fascinating to watch. One can understand the progress from the Power Surge to later Philco washers with waves of water action. I have the hots to see and hear a Maytag AMP washing and I know Ben will oblige us with updates after he gets home. You have no idea how much I hate being so far away from two of the finest human beings I have ever met. I know I'm missing fun. Enjoy the rest of Ben's visit.

The court house in Red Oak, IA was designed and built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style which was very popular in the late Victorian era. The 2 best examples of this type of architecture we had in Wausau were our court house, and the D.J. Plumer mansion. The court house was torn down in 1955, and the Plumer mansion in 1972.

As for the Maytag's, this is another situation where Ben had better keep the house locked up nice and tight when he gets home. I have feeling that quite a few members are looking at this set with a great deal of envy! Just kidding Ben, congratulations on a FANTASTIC score!!!

Wow! You weren't kidding. That amp is unbelievable!

Is that Bendix the one that was in the middle of the garage when the mini vac meet occurred? I think I remember it, it was disassembled a bit.

Wow guys, talk about a fantastic weekend. Congratulations Ben that Maytag set is just beautiful!!! One just never knows what is hiding out there just waiting to be found. Butter Cream, my favorite, what kind of cake???
