Yes, Pearl tapioca and

"fish eye" tapioca are the same.

Grandma Loudenback had a wonderful recipe for a pearl tapioca dessert with brown sugar and dates. Unfortunately, it was one she never wrote down (she wrote down most of her other recipes,) but not this one.

It was wonderful.

But then again, I like tapioca, no matter which size it is.

Jon- that was very nice of you to take Al out for the time it was cooking and stirring.

Poor Aloysius!

First the attention of his boss goes out to an electric appliance AGAIN!!

Then he has to leave the house for a walk instead of sleeping under the bedcovers!

And last but not least he doesn't get to clean the appliance out. I mean, otherwise that thing would have been sparkling clean!

Flabbergasted in Europe!!!

Yes washerboy it is a Yankee name

but it is the same as Pearl tapioca. I think in Chinatown they call it Pearl tapioca.

Terry I like the idea of crock potting it, do you use the wicked low setting so it wont burn?

-chachp you are SOOOO right , there is actually 300 yards between the lowest blade and the bottom of the blender, I measured with a yard stick!
I don't see how it could be a good blender. At any speed it seems to me that thing has just one setting "intent to blend" and thats it.

Now Louis! Aloysius had a wonderful time in the truck whizzing to the grocery store, he loves truck-truck. And he gets to stick his huge nose down into the shopping bags when I return!!

I'll try the Cherries San Souci and give it one more go but first I'll build a foam surround box to operate it in

OR!!!! maybe I could find on ebay one of those---you all may not remember these but---one of those plexiglass "silent" boxes that used to be put around all the teletype computer terminals so when the mainframe banged back its solutions to the teletype, we weren't deafend by the response.

Yes a teletype box thats the ticket!! Anybody got one??

I do have to admit this was an interesting innovation, albeit one I have zero experience with. I believe I'll take your experiences at face value however and stick with my Vita Mix. Maybe you could cook tapioca in one of those, like you're supposed to be able to cook soup and so forth. ;-)

Hey Jon, I start it out on High and after about an hour turn it to low, still takes about 6-8 hours to cook but this has turned out to be the most successful way that I have found to cook it. Once even tried to pressure cook it and that was a real mess.LOL Terry

WOW!Tapioca in a Cook and Stir-guess a good one NOT to try-I suppose anyone who has the modern "Thermomix" may not want to try it either.Still hunting for a Ronson Cook and Stir blender for my collection.Would be an interesting machine to try.

Isn't that what they put in bubble tea?

They always ask, "Tapioca?", or "No Tapioca"?

No, no, NO!!

The first time I was asked, I thought I was hallucinating, lol!

Tapioca Date Pudding

Lawrence:

This might be similar to what your grandmother used to make.

1/2 cup minute tapioca
3 cups cold water
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
2/3 cup chopped dates
1 teaspoon vanilla

Whipping cream (For Topping)

Combine all ingredients and cook in top of double boiler for 1 hour. Stir in vanilla when cooking is complete. Pour into dessert cups and place in the fridge to thicken.

Take care,
Bill

Alternative

I have made this using milk instead of water which makes better in my opinion. But I posted the orig receipe above.
I hope you enjoy it.

I can't stop laughing.
I really thought that you wrote that you tried cooking Stir-Fry in your Ronson Stir - O -Cook, or what ever it is called. The sounds you describe are enough to spoil your meal from your headache you develop.
I guess I could not get past the 50 Gallon's a minute dishwasher.
Thanks for the laugh.
Also, take some "Large Load" shots of your Kitchenaid. You are such a tease!!! I am sure you have been told that before.
Brent :)

Little lost

but are you talking about Tapicoa pudding, that delicious confection of grain sugar milk eggs vanilla cooked slow then receiving a whipped egg white fold?

Why not fire up the Easy and do a few loads while you stir the tapioca, and forget about that screaming reamer.
