And I still have it, my Aunt Jeans Knapp Monarch Redi Oven! She had this sitting on her kitchen counter as far back as I can remember...and im almost 47! I remember very well the day she picked me up at school in about the fourth grade, the first thing I did when I went in the kitchen was for some reason, lay my arm up on that thing, it was on and burned a big blister on my wrist!! I wont ever forget that! A few years ago I was helping her get something out of the attic and there it was, I asked her if I could have it and of course she said yes, so here it is,I think they got it in the early 60s.

Nice oven

I remember Consumer Reports and Consumer's Research always having a fit over these because of the unshielded terminals on them and the shock hazard they posed. Munsey was the other brand they screamed about.

Have Something Similar - The WestBend Ovenette

One supposes these sort of units were made for kitchens lacking ranges with ovens and or as a way to bake/roast small amounts without heating up the entire kitchen. Knapp-Monarch also sold a similar "Redi-Baker" that looks almost the same so not sure what the difference was if any.

If the Redi-Oven is anything like my Ovenette it would never pass safety muster today. Outer surfaces become *VERY* hot during use and could easily cause nasty burns.

Knapp-Monarch must have sold hundreds of those Redi-Ovens and they seem to have been built to last the duration. Judging by the numbers that show up on fleaPay, estate sales and the like there are quite allot out there. Or, it just could have been like many other things foisted on housewive that wasn't really needed and or fullfilled it's promise thus rarely used. *LOL*

Now please pass the biscuts and gravy!
