An avocado Maytag E2LP turned up in a small town about 30 minutes from me. Normally, I'd snap this up because of the color, but I have problems with it:

First is the price, it's $250, and given the condition, I don't think it's worth it.

Second, I'm buying it for the color, but it appears that the paint is scuffed and highly oxidized. Can this be buffed out (no that's not a joke). There's no point in buying it without the factory color.

Third, there looks to be a lot of rust on the wringer head at the control flipper, and where the gearbox joins the head frame. Is this just grease oozing from the joints??

Fourth, there's the usual rust where the tub joins the cabinet, and the interior of the tub is far from pristine.

Comments on these problems and the value of the machine are welcome:

I am looking at these photos with fresh eyes and I think I know what bothers me about it: it looks like the machine has been in a flooded basement, notice that there is a water line running through the wringer head about mid way.

I guess that's strike three.

I thought at first it was sun-bleached, as it was on the porch facing the morning or evening sun. I don't know if people do that anymore, put their washers on the front porch. But water damage is possible. I don't see too many avocado wringers, but I've seen better examples in my searches. I just can't tell you if the model is identical from what I remember seeing. Anyways, that's about my 1.75 cents worth. :-)
