The Button Looking Thingy

Is the vent for the built-in drain airgap, this is not part of the DW, you did not  see these in most parts of the country, however we have fairly strict plumbing codes in Maryland and DAGs were required her on BI DWs.

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">I couldn't tell if it was maybe a switch for a disposal or something like that.  I've never lived anywhere that required the air gap so I've never had to deal with one.</span>
 
Yea that's the air gap, and yea, it burbled out onto the counter now n then...never understood why it wasn't located closer to, or behind the sink...the disposer switch is to her left, with two outlets, it's sorta crooked too lol. The house was purchased in late summer of 61, and the interior was that sorta melon colour.. so I guess it was manufactured in 1960...if y'all look closer, u will notice the latch handle on the dishwasher is bent downwards too ! 😁😁
