Here's a pic of a Greenwich, Sydney laundry mid winter. The machine is a 1980 Hoover 725. The concrete tubs were very common in laundries here up till the 60's. Cheers!
American laundry room as well. My parents house originally had a concrete sink.
Fiberglass came in the mid 60's. Basement laundry's had concrete sinks. First floor laundry rooms had/have a base cabinet with a drop in stainless steel or porcelain sink.
Some two story homes even have second floor laundry rooms today up near the bedrooms. The washer sits in a pan in case of a leak.
Am I right guessing the one above the l/h trough is cold and that there is hot and cold above the r/h trough?
That suggests to me they were thinking of washing by hand in the r/h and rinsing in the left.
How old is the place? Was there a copper/boiler where the washing machine is way back when? Where's the water intake for the washer and is it original or added later when the other modifications were made (tiled splashbacks; shelf)
I've noticed Hoover seems to be about the only American brand that was sold in Britain or Australia in years past, presumably NZ as well. Was that due to trade restrictions, or product pricing?
There are a set of original 1/4 bsp screwed 1950's taps to the right of the machine. The laundry never had a copper, but was built for a really early machine that had its own concrete raised area it sat on.
