A couple of weeks ago, partly because I was preparing the garage in Ogden for a new project and needed to make some room, I heard a faint whimpering at the kitchen door.  

 

It wasn't Canyon this time, though...   This 'orphan' who hadn't seen the inside of the kitchen since 2010 was pleading to be let in and not sent to the top-secret off-site storage location (just off Dufferin Road in Stanstead).

 

Well, how could I resist THAT??

This lovely KicthenAid portable had been patiently sitting in the garage since late 2010.  The machine was used a couple of times in late May of that year, then was drained out and rolled into the garage.  

 

I thought it wise to test the machine with water before loading it with dirty dishes.  The good news was that there were no leaks.  The bad news was that it wouldn't fill!!  

 

Funnily enough I had the same issue with the KitchenAid Electra portable.  The cause?  I call the condition 'Washer rotitis' which leads to 'valve cloggititus'...  The washer on the water inlet hose had deteriorated, crumbled and clogged up the hot water inlet.  Fortunately, it was an easy fix!

Now this model has a really simple cycle - purge, wash, rinse, rinse, dry - that's it.   Yet, the KA did a great job on the test load!  It has now earned the right to stay in the kitchen for the summer (much to Hubby's dismay...LOL)

 

If this machine looks familiar to anyone, it has been owned by not one, but two other automaticwasher.org members in the past!  Chris (in St-Louis) once owned it and I bought it from gregm in Worcester back in 2010.  

 

And there was another reason why I needed an extra dishwasher in the kitchen - you'll see more about that soon...

I loved my KD2.

It wasn't fitting in for my change of new dishes and I couldn't wash any stemware in that machine because of the power.

The HydroSweep in 1964 distributed all that power more evenly to wash Tall Wine glasses in the Lower Rack without destroying them.

No question, they are great cleaners.
 
YOUR HAD BETTER LET THAT POOR BABY BACK INTO THE HOUSE YOU MEAN THING, NICE MACHINE I HAD ONE A LONG TIME AGO REALLY FUN.. YOU HAVE THE BEST TOYS
 
Chris, I'm pretty sure this IS the one you used to have!  That being said, I had better take good care of it, right??
