This site seems to be in a bit of a political mood at present, with the US Prez election and all. I thought some of you might be interested to see this.
My partner is standing for election to the local council, the election is November. It is a postal ballot, papers are posted out in early Nov, with papers due back by Nov 28 and the count taking place on Nov 29.
It is a proportional representation system, seven councillor positions, unsubdivided election. The shire used to be divided into wards with one or two councillors per ward, but wards have now been abolished so everyone gets to vote for all the councillor positions, and can choose from all the candidates.
My partner is standing for the Australian Greens party. Here is a link to his website...
click on the "about" and "issues" tabs for the most interesting info.
