i just sent the seller this question and we'll see if they know? but i'm sure the kenmore experts would know the answer to this question.

I believe this is a 70 series model, so the lint filter would be self cleaning. Unless the cartridge were missing, you would be able to see a small part of it from the interior shot if it were the recirculating type.
Christina - James is right that this washer has a self cleaning filter.
It is a 1980 70 series, made the first week of 1981. There were two versions of this model, one with two dispensers for bleach and softener, and one without. The two dispensers cost $20 more over the version without.
Later that summer around July/August, the belt-drives got a minor refresh in the form of a slightly smaller tub and basket, and revised baseplate geometry, which created the "Energy efficient Belt-Drive". Two of the 70-series models for 1981 did actually have recirculating filters which were coupled with Dual Action agitators. They were in production for a year or less, before being replaced in Spring 1982 with two similar 1982 models which reverted to self cleaning filters.

for your replies & very informative input, about this kenmore not having a recirculating lint filter.
my sister & her ol' man have the newer "HE" samsung toploading washing machine (no agitator, impeller wheel at the bottom of the washbasket). and they are not very happy with the washing action.
first, because she says that some of the clothes at the top of the wash load, don't even get wet! after the washer has stopped "washing" (supposedly), there are dry areas on some of the clothes that have been "washed" (& i use that term loosely).
and second, they have 4 dogs (2 chihuahua mix doggies & 2 australian shepherds). and my sister said that their clothes come out of the wash, still full of hair. so, i was trying to figure out which would be the best washer for them to look into getting, because they are both unhappy with the "washing" results of their new samsung "HE" toploading (non-agitator) washer.
my sister's ol' man wants them to get a front loader next. and my sister said to me that she really doesn't want a front loader. she wants to have a toploader with an agitator.
the thing here is, that neither one of them are into "old" (vintage) anything. i think they think i'm crazy because everything i like is NOT new. it's either "vintage" or used/old. they want "new" machines.
so, i was thinking, if i could spot something, not too old & still new looking & working, maybe i could have them "step into the other side of the looking glass".
hm hm hm.....
one thing my sister did mention is that they need a BIG capacity washer to wash their king size sheets & comforters in. i think that is why my sister's ol' man wants to get a front loader. but i don't think a front loader would be any good at getting rid of the dog hair???
i'm going to suggest to my sister to find someone they know, who owns a front loader washing machine. and see if they would let them use it to wash one load of clothes, to see how a front loader performs, in getting rid of the dog hair from the clothes, before actually going out and buying one for themselves.
i think that is the best advice that i could give them. and i should tell them to bring a load of their clothes here to wash in my maytag 806, so they can see how the ling filter in the agitator catches the dog hair too!!
(i wonder if that would make them 2nd guess an "old" set???)

Finding a top loader to handle a king size set of sheets is not a problem. But finding one that will handle a comforter is. I think the only thing that may handle that size comforter would be like a Norge 20# machine. Those were about the biggest capacity with an agitator that I can think of.
I use to own a large capacity Kenmore that handled the sheets with no problem. But when it came time to wash comforters, I felt cramming it into the washer was a too much on the machine and you didn't get any turnover. I would end up taking the comforter to a laundromat and using one of the big FL machines.

I think that's the exact reason why my sister's ol man is wanting to get a front loader. I just have a feeling that the front loader isn't going to help them with filtering the dog hair??
But I guess, in the end, it comes down to them making the choice.
