I voted Anderson Cooper, Bill O'Reilly, Wolf Blitzer, and Hannity & Colmes.
I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND Shepard Smith, mainly after his coverage on Hurricane Katrina and how he treated the whole thing like it was "no big deal". He wandered by the floodwaters, where tired people were swimming to dry land, and the first thing he does is shove his mic in their faces. And there's something about Greta Van Susteren that just annoys me.
Strange because "Shep" has a higher rating on all accounts. Comparing Larry King Live to Hannity & Colmes is like apples & oranges...one entire show was an interview and life discussion with Rod Stewart, for example, while H&C is mostly political. And I would much rather watch Bill O'Reilly than Paula Zahn.
Again, just my opinions. I used to listen to Fox News as my "nighttime channel", now I'm falling asleep to CNN.

It's important to remember the distinction between jounalists and commentators. Anderson Cooper is a journalist who occassionaly editorializes (not often, though) O'Reilly and Hannitty are commentators who sometimes like to pretend they are journalists. (Holmes just doesn't count, as he is essentially Hannitty's lapdog.)
I don't watch any of them, as TV is too dumbed down for me - not that I'm any great intellect, but I like to at least keep up appearances. I'm much more of a radio and print person myself. Although I note with interest that Anderson Cooper is Gloria Vanderbilt's son. Yet another billionaire "man of the people". At least he doesn't try to fake an accent or claim he's from someplace he's not. ;-)

Sometimes I think I'm the last person who reads a newspaper. What I usually do see news on the TV or hear it on the radio, but then read the newspaper to get all the details there's no time for on TV or radio.

Jason, I hope you were joking about turning off the TV if it does not make you laugh. Too many people are tuning out news reports and you cannot have a safe, effective democracy without an informed electorate. Today, much of the electorate is more inflamed than informed; getting snippets from media outlets who report what they select to further their goals which often have nothing in common with the concerns and goals of their listeners.
Anderson Cooper's prematurely gray hair is not why people respect him. I am sure his background made certain avenues easier for him, but he is not someone wanting the cushy news set positions. His reporting from trouble spots cannot be all that easy, even if some of the stories involve thrills and adrenaline rushes like reporting during hurricanes. He has also had to cope with family problems like his brother's suicide. Speaking from terrible first-hand experience with death, it colors your world from the day it happens to a loved one until the time you, yourself die. The CNN website has featured a link to an article AC wrote about his brother's death and it's not fluff.

I don't watch tv very much national and international news. I just think there is too much bias and news reporters don't have any backbones nowadays. The only news I watch on television is local news just so I can get an idea as to what is going on in Maricopa County.
I get most of my news from the internet, whether it's reading a newspaper online or blogs. I also listen to certain talk radio stations as well.

I hear the news on the radio in the car and that's enough for me. After the first few reports of suicide bombers and local murders, I quickly start a CD or change the station. Sorry, I'm not much for talk radio/tv.
In yesterdays paper was an article saying Aaron Brown has been punted from CNN to be replaced by Anderson. Too bad because I enjoyed Aarons anchoring of their news. Anderson Cooper brings to my mind another showboat what's his first name, Rivera...

most people don't realize that in the US the Fairness in Media Doctrine was canceled in the late 80s or so. This required that honesty and facts be required for "the News". So there is absolutely NO obligation for Fox and the like to tell the truth. I believe this is the definition of propanda.
If you happen to be watching the evening "news", as some people grew up relying on for information, and you happen to see something factual it is only coincidence and is designed to make you think that everything else they spew is also true.
I have to keep reminding my parents that what you see on fox or abc is republican propaganda. They are just so enthralled with the distracting high resolution graphics, they are sucked in. As many people have been. TV news like newspapers is passe'. why would you want to get 2 dimensional "news" delivered to you at some one elses schedule when you can participate in it on line. And get the truth any time you want. This is why newspapers and television are loosing BIG time. Night-Ridder a large newspaper chain is be pushed to divest itself of the outdated, finger staining media material. But who would buy it?

On my American trip in 2002 I stayed in a small town in Tennessee for a week. Much to my surprise there was hardly any international news available. Not in the newspapers that were available and not on TV. I had no access to the internet for a while and felt totally isolated.

In all fairness though the traditional South isn't all bad there are areas of improvement. In terms of choice topography and realestate, yeah the weather isn't as bad. Now if we could just move New York there and get rid of the negative elements with that tacki language impediment- ya' all.

Anderson got my vote, although that weather correspondent Rob Marciano and Dr. Sanjay Gupta are attention getters too. CNN is fine if there is "breaking news" and live feed video to watch, but 24 hours of the same stories gets very old, very fast.
I try to get news and information from numerous sources and believe it or not, books. Yes, they still print them, on paper, just like when we were kids! There are literally volumes of information on current events and one of my favorite topics, history. I'm currently reading several books, depending on my interest at a given time. The Prize, a history of Oil and the quest for money & power. Imperial America, Gore Vidal and The House of Bush - The house of Saud (this one will make your head spin and steam blow from your ears). I have several that come highly recommended that are awaiting attention, one of which is Same Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe that I can't wait to start! Tom is absolutely right about inflamed vs. informed electorate - one only needs to stop and watch for a moment, instead of talking about core issues facing our country and society - talking heads and politicos speak only of that which will ensure victory in now privatized elections. Interesting that Southerners never move "north" to retire, yet the carpetbagging Yankees keep invading the south in frightening numbers. And after relocating to our turf, they do nothing but criticize our language, culture, food, values, morals, ethics, backwardness, driving, etc. So, why do they move here to begin with?

I like enjoying every aspect of the places I'm staying. I enjoyed Manhattan very much, but my trip to Tennessee was great too. Thanks to some friends I made through this club I was able to see large parts of the US, I think I have been in almost 20 states. I'm a bit of a nomad and if I wouldn't have to work and had more money I would be traveling even much more. That said, there is a time you have to go home and at such a moment I like catching up on the European and Dutch news before I arrive in the Netherlands. That's not very hard when you're in New York, but in some other parts of your country a bit difficult. To answer your question, I always enjoy being where I am but also have a longing for being somewhere else...

Slower pace.
Nice, gentler, kinder people.
Lower population density "cities".
Cost of energy... compared to where I live, heat is necessary for survival. There are places in the south where A/C (and or heat) is nice, but not mandatory.
.............and some of us don't mind EVERYTHING deep fried and gravy laden.
But PLEASE finish your sentences TODAY....
..and once you get past the bible-thumping, it ain't a bad place to be! LOL.

Everything changes.......
In my teens and to my mid 30's Manhattan (downtown NYC) was THE BOMB.
Now in my early 40's the "nothingness" of suburbia suits me JUST fine!
with the internet, a driver's license (*optional* where I live) and unlimited phone service, there is now IMHO connectedness almost anywhere.
