Just wondering what you thoughts are about the yearly AC maintenance that HVAC companies offer? I was thinking about getting it done this year. Our AC is 12 years old so thinking it might be time for a good cleaning.

Funny you should post this...I was wondering the same thing. Mine offers the inside and outside service for $125 for a heat pump. Thoughts anyone?

I used to be in the HVAC field, and I do suggest getting it done every other year, unless you know what you are doing.

I back flush mine every year since we got TONS of cotton wood in the neighborhood.

When I was in the field, I would back flush the coils, clean the contacts, check the wires conections, and put my gauge on it to check for pressure, and then take a temp reading for correct blower speed.

Maintenance.

New HVAC equipment is expensive, maintenance is comparatively cheap. Also, a well-maintained system is more energy efficient. It's kind of like changing the oil on your car. Should you change it less frequently as it ages? Of course not!

Keep it maintained and it will keep you comfortable more reliably and predictably. Also, it's usually best to catch any potential problems early and nip them in the bud, or at least know what you're in for with enough time to plan a course of action.
