This was something they bought from Westinghouse, or at least built from Wh patents, because Westinghouse sold a skillet that was identical in the mid sixties, this one is dated 1973.

This is Westinghouse's designs re-banded for Hamilton Beach. Westinghouse's small appliance division sole to Scovill during the last 60s and kept using the heating appliance designs.

HB Called Their Broiler/Fry Pan "Pantastic"
Versions came in that groovy 1970's colour Avocado and probably others as well.
One moved the heating coil and control to the lid or skillet depending upon how one was cooking.
Cumbersome IMHO but suppose it got the job done.
