Love that Kenmore!

What a beautiful range! I love the center griddle and it looks to be in great condition - too bad it's so far away. Hope it goes to a good home!

If you bake, you don't really want a Kenmore (Roper) oven. Unless you replace the thermostat with one that uses top heat during baking, they do not use top heat in BAKE mode and the results are not the same as in an electric oven that uses top heat during bake. I had a Roper-built stove and the only way I could get biscuits to bake properly was to bake them on the Preheat setting.

I had a

57 Kenmore, it baked ok but was SLOW to preheat,I agree they would have been much better if the top unit heated also, the best baking range I ever used is the 55 Norge, the outer coil of the top unit heats, like a Westinghouse.

That thing in the center is just as likely to be something like a rectangular electric skillet where the whole cast aluminum thing plugged out for a good scrubbing. It had the electric element cast into the pan, like an electric skillet. John saved one from a similar stove. Roper was always doing something with that center space. How many of you remember Sears/Roper gas ranges that had a center rotisserie with a rectangular burner on either side, Infra Ray, I think. Consumer's Report stated taht it splattered a lot. Who would have thought that, with a chicken rotissing in the middle of the stovetop? I have never used my Farberware Broiler as a rotisserie. I was told that it does not splatter. Is that true, anyone with experience?
