Basically- and no offence to yourself obviously! its an Ariston machine made in Italy with the Hotpoint name on it.

It dosent bode well for the future of British assembled models :(

Since Hotpoint became an Indesit brand and Hoover is Candy I believe that all the new machines will be produced here in Italy (or maybe they'll switch to China!!!). And sadly Hotpoint will be the new Ariston name here in Italy too :-(
Anyway a lay off 5 days before Christmas is quite sad... even it they were only temporary workers.

OMG! I've never been hearing of manufacturing somethin here since the BOOM of the Sixties!!

Many many and many again of the production "MADE IN ITALY" of course is note made here! Now I think only shoes are REALLY made in Italy...I don't know of any plants of appliances producing around here (maybe some components)... most are assembled in Poland and the China export have overflowed here!

Is like Gabriele said, they say made-in-Italy because of an IndesitCompany brand but honestly I don't believe at all they could have been assembled in any of the plants of our land!
There are many plants of the Indesit in Poland...

That just shows how evil the top dogs can be!!! No thought for the workforce who I am sure gave their all in the name of "Hoover"!!!!
I am sorry.... Business is business but without a loyal workforce a business is nothing!
How can they do this to people???? After all they are not paying robots, they are employing people with families.
I am so angry that these companies (who are making a huge profit anyway) employ people to make huge cut backs at their employees expense!!! They want to make good quality appliances as they have in the past... stop employing these streamliners who make shortcuts in the quality of their products to verify their salary and give the general public the quality they had years ago!!!! Hoover, Hotpoint, Indesit etc should be ashamed of themselves!!!

This just goes to show what a crap company Indesit is. Candy took Hoover downhill first and now Indesit follow. All I can do is laugh at those here who blatantly support Indesit an buying and swearing their machines are brilliant. Very amusing that certain members here accept that their Hotpoints broke down within days and have been replaced or fixed yet still swear Indesit are so great. Lmao! I love it!

What other people choose to believe in THEIR products and THEIR companies is THEIR choice!
You shouldnt put them down for their beliefs.

My Hotpoint when I got it on May 22nd, was DOA (Dead on arrival), but was dutifully replaced the next day. I am happy with the efficency of Hotpoint/Indesit Co for replacing it so quickly. My machine is brilliant now. Its doing anything upto 45 loads a week now and hasnt had a complaint yet!
 
P.S I love the new Ariston Hotpoint. Such an unusual looking control layout :-D

Shame about the Hoover workers too :-(
 
Diomede: only DeLonghi stopped the production in Italy... everything else: Smeg, Cany, Indesit... all produce in Italy as today.

Darren posted some pictures a while back of these new Hotpoints, I noticed the Indesit Company drum and guessed that they would be produced in Italy. I sincerely hope that Indesit Company are not moving all production to Italy but I would not be at all surprised if they did.

This is very sad news for Hoover workers and just before Christmas too. It never ceases to amaze me how Hoover went from one of the most successful Electrical appliance manufacturers in the World to its current state where the Hoover name is divided among companies and countries World wide.

I totally agree with your comments regarding Aquarius1984, his arrogance knows no bounds and is becoming very old! It would appear that Aquarius1984 has nothing more constructive to do with his time than condemn highly successful companies and bash other peoples choices. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but its how that opinion is voiced that's important, especially in this public forum where we are guests of Robert Seger.

Sadly, Indesit can sometimes be the only choice for some people, and the machines, as far as i can see do the job - wash the clothes - which we all seem to agree on!

Aquarius 84: Why dont you let us all know when you have become an adult, moved out of your family home and have to pay for things in the real world? You see, i suspect if you were in the real world you too would be doing your laundry with a "crappy" Hotpoint or Indesit, and not a premium brand such as Miele/AEG. You comments above are the exact reason i rarely feel comfortable contributing to this fantstic web site.

I'm afraid there are many examples of staff being laid off before Xmas. It is a shame and always at a crucial time for families.

As for the Italian made machines, well It is a shame that they are not being made here but then I have bought always lots of Italian made things from cars to toothpaste and if you've been on a tilting train recently its also Italian. Its quite a Country really isn't it from what i've seen on my many visits. Like we once were in the UK sob sob. Maybe we should all move to Italia!

Buy the way, i've aquired an Indesit washer myself the WIA121. Really good too. Vids will be posted soon.

Its a sad fact that companies can and do sack their staff in the run up to christmas and it sucks! The same thing happened to a local electrical store a couple of years ago, the staff were given 2 weeks notice that the store was to shut and they were all out of jobs, as such the company instructed the manager to reduce products to a reasonable price in order to clear the stock in the 2 weeks before xmas, luckily for customers and as 2 fingers up to the company for dropping them in the doo-doo the manager told his staff to accept offers on the items, i picked up an ex-display Dyson washing machine for £50! A mate got a 52" Plasma tv that was meant to be £2000 for £800 it was crazy, needless to say word got round and the store was empty after less than 2 days! Its still a wrong thing to do to people and especially mean right before christmas!

I can say that here is not a good period even though what you hear from outside isn't saying like so...

Did you know just a few years ago just in Turin (I live few mile far from there) the Thyessen-Krupp plants explosion provocates 5 workers death?

The more I say I would like to fly away from here, the more people say want to come stay in Italy...bah.

I think the people leaving nice messages about Italy are trying to be supportive.
I have a BOL Indesit washer. It cleans well but I have to give every load a full 2 extra rinses to get them rinsed well.
It doesn't personally make me think bad of Italy, in fact I have wonderful memories of a holiday in Venice 4 years ago!!!!
Washers are washers and holidays are holidays ! Italy has problems the same as Britain.
Germany have great machines but they are very expensive... (Horses for courses)

I have to agree with Dan here that the control panel is nice on that machine. :) I especially like the drawer – I just want to grab it! hehe :) Crumbs, if I were to go to my local independent dealer, I’d go in there and start grabbing! hehe :)

It is very sad about the Hoover workers and the concern over more Hotpoint-badged models being made outside of the UK, too, especially with regard to the lack of Hotpoint UK-made drums – a final link, if you will, with UK-engineered Hotpoints of the past. :( I guess this is the way the world is going, but it would still be a great shame. :(

I guess the main point is that things should be made to the highest possible standard, regardless of where that is. However, if the UK factories, either Hotpoint or Hoover, are ever closed, it would be nigh-on impossible to build any new UK factories for these brands in the future, so I think that’s at least partly why many of us feel somewhat sad if there were any significant winding down or even closures of these factories.

If you are a service engineer, it is quite possible to identify ‘good’ and ‘bad’ models from any manufacturer. I can do this with consumer electronics – hi-fi equipment, TVs, DVD players, etc. – and it is possible with electronics to find ‘good’ and ‘bad’ models from one manufacturer. Much of this is due to different designers, both inside and outside a manufacturer, being used to design a particular model of, say, a CD player. I have no idea how relevant this is to white goods, but it is an important point in many consumer electronics items. TVs, for example, often use different chassis (like a power/control board in a washing machine :)) in a given range, so the features and performance can vary across a range. Indeed, it is possible to find cheaper models in a particular range of any consumer electronics that may actually perform better than a more expensive model from the same manufacturer! :)

From what I can see, however, several Hotpoint/Ariston models – most notably the Aqualtis, which are made in Italy – are proving to be very impressive machines in terms of design, engineering and reliability. :)

Higher-end Hoovers, too – Vision HD, for example – are very interesting models, especially with regard to the incredible number of rinses they can be programmed to undertake. Further still, LG machines are very interesting, with some clever ideas, and some LG models are well rated by Which? magazine. :)

Admittedly, over the long-term, Miele appliances, for example, tend to perform well and last a long time. However, Mieles can, like any other make, go wrong – less likely, yes, but they still can. :) When ours fail outside of warranty, we will indeed perhaps have a rather hefty repair bill! hehe :)

However, with makes like Miele, there is the initial purchase cost, which many consumers simply cannot manage, and there are occasions where a Miele appliance, however much ‘better’ it may be in many ways, is not suitable for various other reasons. :) In cases like that, a Miele may not be ‘better’. :)

This is why we have a free market – and we are free to choose what we want to buy. :) If we make a mistake, we will have to learn from it – it’s our responsibility and our money. :) As the saying goes, you pays your money and takes your choice. :)

Or is it the other way round…?! ;) Surely you takes your choice and then pays your money…?! ;) Or at least get the credit or debit card out! hehe :)

Let’s hope those Hoover workers and others can have a nice Christmas and New Year and get decent jobs quickly again. :)

Diomonde, I think I lived in Italy in a previous life and was born in the wrong country this time around lol. I've been to Turin and am heading back there soon in 2008. Maybe we can meet up and compare our countries.

Now what is it thats making us by these Italian machines? Is it down to price, good looks and design or what? I myself love the look of these latest machines coming out of Indesit/Hotpoint and Hoover-Candy but I also love the wash rythems that are so varied. Less to get board with. I don't want a current machine that just goes back n forth and thats it. I want slow fast slow wooosh! lol.

At end we got troubles here either as in any other countries...this is not of course The Gold Land LOL!

I don't think nationality has much to do with the quality of the machine to be quite honest.

Italian brands like those owned by Merloni/Indesit i.e. Hotpoint-Ariston, Scholtes, Indesit etc cover a huge range of models from cheap and cheerful basic indesit models which are clearly built and designed to meet a particular low cost market's needs to high end products like the Aqualtis which is right up there with the best on the market.

The same goes for Electrolux you've cheap machines at the lower end like Tricity Bendix which are pretty basic and not necessarily very nice to use right up to the high end AEGs.

You can't really compare with Miele or even Bosch/Siemens which tend to occupy mid to high ends only and avoid the cheaper end of the market.

Miele are simply not even going to consider making a machine for €300 ! Indesit make millions of them and they serve a function. Remember, if you think back to the 1960s and 1970s automatic washing machines were a high end luxury item that many people couldn't afford. The likes of Indesit and Electrolux brought those products to the mass market at an affordable price and make very healthy profit.

We may not love low end machines on this board, but they do serve a function and most of them give many years of reliable service. They may lack the smooth sophistication of some of the top of the line stuff and the exclusive manufactuers like Miele etc, but they're decent honest machines that do most of Europe's washing!

The same goes for the US counterparts like the low end Whirlpools, Kenmores, GEs and other relatively bland brands...
 
Interestingly we at the co-op have the same machine under the model HVF344 i think. strange! This was on the ariston website last year, we dont have it on display yet but wen they do bring it across i'll be sure to check it out!
