Another KDS-22 Question: Rinse Agent Dispenser

Thanks to Steve T for the advice on the bottom panel issue I was having. The new parts arrived and now it fits perfectly.

I have a question about the rinse agent dispenser. Aside from monitoring the level to see if it drops over time, how can you be sure it is actually dispensing?

In the process of cleaning this machine up (based on posts I read here) I replaced both the drain check valve and the water inlet valve. These two items made a big difference in wash performance. There was so much scale in the old water valve I'm sure it wasn't getting enough water. There was a significant improvement in the pressure to the upper wash arm after replacing the drain check valve.

I had this same issue with our KDI21 at the other house, and now with the ISE Classic Supreme I'm currently using.  It seems like the rinse aid level is always good, until it's completely empty. 

 

With the Thermador it was slightly easier to tell when the level was getting low, but only slightly.

 

I guess on some of the new machines there's some kind of warning light on the panel.

 

With the 22 series (which is what my ISE is) and its single final rinse, the way I can tell it's dispensing is when I fill my glass coffee carafe after it has run through a wash.  If there's a slight wisp of suds on the surface of the water, I know that rinse aid has been dispensed.  This never happened with the Thermador, but has been the case with both the KDI21 and the ISE.  As a matter of course when I pull the carafe from the machine I rinse it out first, then fill it with water for brewing coffee.

RINSE AGENT DISPENSERS

You can usually tell when the RA goes in because it will cause a slight foaming of the rinse water which causes the water sound to go down a level. I can hear this on my 1987 WP because the machine gets a little quieter, although I haven't used RA in years as my glass ware comes beautifully and dry even on the air-dry setting so I consider it an unnecessary expense and an unnecessary assault on the environment..
