I think it is of Polish origin
"After being washed with Ixi (a Polish synthetic detergent), the whiteness of this sample was 64-5, and, after being washed with water, methanoi, and ..."
I could only find it referenced in microbiological studies on mussel beds/aquatic organisms, possible alopecia (medical study suggestion), and the bit I grabbed above.
