I found this article by accident, and while there is some sensationalism in the presentation it pleases me that a well known, non-gay site is addressing the issue. With the budget cutting that the Obama administration is now loudly implementing, it would make sense to suspend the discharges of people like Dan Choi on a cost savings basis alone.

Of course,

the simple fact that the US and NATO needs this Lieutenant's service is also a factor being overlooked by the brain dead Republicans in Congress.

What part of "you don't harass your soldiers in a theater of war" don't these idiots get"?

I would love, just love to hear even one coherrent reason why the US should continue to jeopardize the mission by wasting time and resources persecuting gay and lesbian service members.

This is stupid.
This is one reason the US was not able to wade through the intelligence gathered prior to 9/11.

Maybe he wasn't a cunning-liguist.

My understaning is that Obama is not doing enough to rescind "Don't Ask; Don't tell"

There is a law, IIRC, stating that known gays may not serve in the military.

There is no law, however, compeling the gov't/military to investingate to find-out if so-and-so is a flaming 'mo when allegations arise.

All Obama has to do is tell the military "There is not enough money in the budget to waste it on invesitngating such claims SO CUT IT OUT". By investinating, we are constructively ASKING.

Problem solved.

Well it's like putting a bandage on cancer, but it will work for the short-term.

Persnally I think the Americans have it all wrong. FOSTERING M-M love relationships in the army (like the pre-Chrisitian) Ancient Greeks did will foster BETTER soldiers, if you ask me. *WINK*

Can you picture it now? Er....exuse me solider, just *WHERE* do you think you are sticking your big, strong, fast, powerful solid-as-steel gun, eh?

No hoax

The trouble is, as long as we have five Supremes who are not committed to full human status for gays, it is very hard to get anywhere without full congressional support.

And that is where the blue-dog Democrats come in. These Republicans-in-donkey's-clothing are nothing but boils on top of piles. But they can be relied upon to vote with the christianists against our human rights unless Obama has the means of backing them into a corner.

It may take a while, but he'll get there. I hope.

Of course, if we could finally get Franken on Board (not an endorsement, he is not a nice man) and then one or two Maine Republicans decide they've had it, well - then we could really go to town. Until then, it's going to be a slow slog with lots of frustrating weeks and months.
