Already got the new gear case that I bought on e-bay to return the neutral function to the Kenmore/ whirlpool Direct Drive. Boy -- it's heavy. Shinny new part in the OE Whirlpool box .. no brainer for $122 minus the $50 from e-bay. The neural parts are almost $50.

I assume my thread title about the warning to removing the paint from the hole on the case is because there must be a vent in the top. Why does it not leak when you tip the machine over ?

I have the a new basket drive as well I'm still not sure exactly what gets greased and what gets oiled. I keep re-reading my other post. I'm going to refresh the grease in the cup at the top of the basket drive (I wiped some out by accident). And will refresh the grease in the new seal I have for the large tube that the tub attaches to -- hope I can get that tub off. It seems there is some grease on the top of the spindle of the gear case -- I can see it on the videos. No one seem to grease these thing in the videos -- they just slap them back together !!
