I found a bunch of these on Ebay and bought three. I have only received two so far, but am keeping one for me and am sending one off to my friends in Madison. Electrolux used to take in old Lux trade-ins on new machines and send them back to the factory for a complete rebuild for resale. If they couldn't sell you a new Silverado, they would bring out one of these. I have a rebuilt silver G, but found a bunch that someone found. New G's rebuilt in Silverado colors. I think that this was the best of Electrolux when built in the early 60's.

Ok - First Beauty Shot

The hose and power nozzle are added. I can show the original Lux parts that came with the machine. Geez, you can throw this down the stairs and hardly make a dent. Quiet and powerful. Takes the latest bags and all parts are still available.

The Power Nozzle

That's a PN-4 which would have been sold with the Super J in about 1976. Their power nozzles got better and better up through the PN-6. The G would have been sold with a PN-1 to match the colors of the machine it was sold with. The PN-4 would have been later, but goes well, don't you think? The electric hose is a current one, the pigtail hose is still available from Electrolux (now Aerus.)

That is NICE!

I like the color, it goes well with the chrome.

If only Aerus would make a model like that.

Motor Sound

Those motors are original and completely rebuilt by Electrolux in about 1983. While Jeff Parker was here today dropping off the Maytags et. al. I ran it quickly for him. He couldn't believe how quiet it was. The G was one of the most quiet Luxs made. I am giving one to my friends in Madison WI since I brought my other one up and Michael said that standing behind that machine while it was running was like standing behind a jet engine. A thing of beauty and functional as well!

well i say congrats! ive used a couple of factory refurbished luxs (not nice model g's), and electrolux does do a FINE job of renewing them. too bad Hoover didnt have a more extensive factory rebuild program.

Beautiful looking vac. It's basic body is essentially the same as the Cdn models 88 & 89 with only the adornments/handle altered. The model 88/9 only have 1 front wheel mounted on a swiveling caster.

I too bought one of these

and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival! Fred, yours is a beautiful machine. You say the pigtail hoses are still available from Areus? Marty

Electrolux did a great job of rebuilding older machines. Even the cordwinder was spliced with a new factory cord. They never rebuilt power nozzles unfortunately. The rebuilt machines always came with the years current PN. I cringe to think of a Model G sans a PN1. Plus, the PN1 was very quiet also. My favorite of all the old luxes!

Lux G

I have a rebuilt G. Mine is in the dark brown color. It is my daily driver. I replaced the hose about six months ago. I beleive the cost from Areus was about 135.00. The vinyl replacement is much nicer than the cloth hose that was original to my machine.

too bad Hoover didnt have a more extensive factory rebuild p

David,

Hoover did have a very extesive factory rebuild program that they discontinued in the 1950's sometime. For many years Hoover took their old models in trade for new ones, and rather than trash machines that were very repairable they rebuilt them. Hence the "Hoover Special" models.
Rebuilt cleaners are what Hoover sold during the war too.

They discontinued the program when it became too expensive to keep making all the old parts.

Glad you got yours, Fred. I'm still waiting for the one I bought almost two weeks ago. I got a message from another of the "G" buyers and they haven't heard a word from the seller. I've had little cooperation from the seller as well and just filed a claim with PayPal this morning. UGH!

Jeff,
Had no idea the Hoover 'specials" were rebuilt machines. The factory must have done a great job- I never knew the difference, seeing many come in on trades.

The tag on the front will read "The Hoover Special - previous model reconstructed at the factory"

Greg

This ebay seller is turning out to be somewhat of a flake. She shipped me two and I ordered three. I emailed her through Ebay and she came up with some off-the-wall excuse and promised to get back to me. Yikes! I hope this doesn't turn into a disaster. I emailed her again today and we'll see what she says. It would be a shame if people got scammed on this since these really are nice machines.
