Why are we all so worried about Helen's mystery package???

I already know whats in there... its her make-up case with a selection trowels and enough spackle to "smooth things over" and "fill things in"
I imagine she'll have the cement mixer arrive on Saturday.

Must look our best this weekend!

I told Helen that if that is what she wants to do, then I would order a large cement mixer to arrive around 4:30. I'll have the wheelbarrows ready to haul the cement to the garage where we can "fill in the cracks" Oh boy, Jeff, we are going to be in trouble over this one!

Hoover Special

The original "special" was the Hoover Special model N from 1916 and would become the 102 with some updates in 1919. This "Special" became the standard Hoover we know today. You had the "Senior" a very heavy machine related to the original model and a "Junior" version of this "Senior" model also a very hefty gal indeed. These were dropped in the late teens in favor of the more lightweight "Special" models and the "Baby" models that were even lighter weight. Somewhere in the 1920's, Hoover began their rebuild program where they would take in a trade and rebuild it for sale. The dealer's were happy because they had an alternative to "that's too expensive". Instead of buying new, customers could buy a rebuild at a lower price. Tools were also remanufactured for these models. A friend of mine has a model 60 "Special" that has been retro fitted with a model 61 handle. The 1940's machines are out there labeled as "Specials", you just have to keep your eyes peeled. Somewhere in the 1930's they began stamping the date the machine was remanufactured with a month and year. If you have a "Special", look near the model number and you will see the stamping in the housing of the machine. The whole remanufacturing thing did go the way of the steam locomotive because new models were introduced in the 1950's that covered the "Specials" price range like the model 115 "Junior" from 1948-1953 and the new "Lark" that was introduced in 1953. There was also a little known model called the anniversary cleaner model 634 that was a cheaper alternative to the more expensive model 63 having some fewer features. Then the Convertible line introduced a cheaper model that revived the "Special" name for their entry level machine. Hoover also quit building the "Baby" around 1923 so really nothing cheaper was really available until the early 1930's. During the depression, the "Special" filled that niche at the lower end of the product line. They were all every bit a Hoover because they beat as they swept as they cleaned!

Do they still

rebuild vacuums? (Electrolux that is.) I have a Super J that I would like to have rebuilt. Does anyone know the cost?
That G is a beautiful machine. How much do they cost? Can you still get them? I'm a big Lux fan. Glad to see some of their older models being preserved. Tim

Electrolux (Aerus) Doesn't Rebuild Anymore

Pity. I think that the G shown above was one of the last ones. They used to have a whole line of rebuilts L 1205 and G - at least those are the ones shown in my instruction manual for rebuilt machines. There are folks out there that do it as a business - see link below. I just don't know what the quality control is, and how much of the rebuild is with original parts.

Elux destroys their trade ins

At least thats what one dealer told me not too long ago. They'd rather sell a new machine and get rid of the "obsolete" stuff

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Electrolux stopped rebuiling older machines in the mid eighties. Kirby will still sell a remanufactured machine.

I have a few G's but none are as nice as that rebuilt Lux one.didn't know Electrolux rebuilt and resold machines-At the local Areos dealer here-the policy now is to DESTROY those oldies and trade ins!!!How stupid.I don't deal with Areos anymore because of that.

Jeff,
The one I remember (model 60?) had "Hoover Special" on the hood in front of the headlight, a small rectangular plate. And the bag was a "Hygien-i-sac".
Bobby in Boston

That would be about right Bobby. I've seen a couple model 60 rebuilds.
Hygenisac was later changed to Handisac.

I Must Live Right!!!

I got home today and found a notice of attempted delivery of the third machine from Ms. Smith. I'll swing by the post office tomorrow AM and pick it up. I just hope everyone else get's theirs.

Hygienisac

i was lucky; my ebay Hoover 61 came with its manual. it also calls the paper bag by that name.

Hygenisac

useless fact:

Depending on the vintage of those model 61 manuals, the bag could be referred to as either a hygenisac or handisac. Later manuals called it a handisac.

Yes, Miss Agnes Gooch, (aka Jeff Parker), we must attribute this lovely quote to you.

In addition, I've have the hump removed from my back just to look my best for the evening. Even the wart on the tip of my nose with the three hairs has been planed off just for the event!

Why with any luck, I'll even be able to duck and run just in time to miss the house being dropped my way too. Not to mention the pail of water being tossed as well.

The only thing that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson and that's ME baby. Now get out of my way 'cause I've got a man waiting for me. (It seems I'm the only one in the whole gang at Tarantula Arms for that matter.)

So you up north on Friday and for the entire weekend, it might be best to always back away from me...................

So Helen my dear...

If I'm always to back away, what shall I do with the package thats HERE for you?
