I loved

His comment that he kept sex toys and viagra in the car "just in case".
Gosh, I am so boring. I keep water, blankets, sand, tools, spare parts and fluids for the car in mine.

Just another proof that Republican christianists are superior to the rest of us.

Seriously, tho', what is it with South Carolina? Their governor, their Congressman, now their attorney general's assistant...and on and on and on.

Sordid lives doesn't even begin to come close to these folks.

Just out of curiosity, and I'm not necessarily defending Corning, but was he seen doing something with this woman? I mean other than sitting in his car?

"Corning and the woman gave police conflicting statements as to why they were at the cemetery and the nature of their relationship, the report said."

What the hell business is this of the police? Unless "being in a cemetary" and "conspiracy to have sex" are crimes in South Carolina.

Well,

Gosh, Jeff - I am quite sure he was just having a quite come-to-Jesus meeting with her and was just getting to the high point of the meeting when he saw the police pulling up.

So, like any law-abiding citizen who's doing nothing wrong, he pulled away at high speed.

You don't suppose that viagra and those sex toys and the high-priced hooker were there for the pleasure of a breezy autumn day in the cemetery? Why, what ever else could they have been there for...

OK, that was a bit sarcastic, Jeff, I do admit

I suspect it's a mixture of things. One, we all know that Republicans and fundamentalist Christians (and he's a real gay-bashing, defense of marriage Bible-thumper) really don't give a rat's-ass about Christianity, they just do it to get votes and drive people to do what they want through hatred.

But you do have to keep up appearances. He's not being punished for running from the cops or the hooker or the sex toys or the viagra or the sex in the cemetery. He's being punished because he's a convenient fall guy so the christianists can pretend they really take 'morality' seriously.

South Carolina is a great state with some really nice people. Their republican officials are not among them.

Schadenfreude? Oh, man, yeah. The more of these christianists get caught with their pants down, the better.

Keven, I didn't explain my questions very well. We all know what was probably going on. I'm asking about the legality of it, not the morality.

If a cop wants to give me a speeding ticket, that's his business. If he asks me what I'm doing with someone who's hasn't broken and isn't breaking any laws, that's none of his business. Legally.

Jeff,

MY fault, I had the police officer's statement, you didn't.

This cover-up mess-up couldn't have come at a worse time for the SC attorney general...

So sad, so very sad. This self-righteous christianist has made a big campaign out of restoring good, Christian values to SC by going big time against prostitution.

I Saw This Yesterday . . .

and laughed my tail off at the name "Platinum Plus Gentlemen's Club". Too funny. I have no problem with prostitution - it should be legalized and taxed. Hanging around in a cemetary necking or having sex is just tawdry, and I'm in agreement that the cops should inquire of anyone who doesn't appear to have any interest in or connection to the cemetary. I don't believe Mr. Corning and the 18 year old were charged, but just asked to move on, which IMO is appropriate. Mr. Corning should find a private place to take his young friends, even if that means splurging on a motel room.

That's just it, Hydrauliqe---

A married "upstanding public moral man" can't be caught renting a motel room, even with an assumed name and in cash.

Remember when Jerry Springer was mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio? He paid a Kentucky girl for some of her time, and was dim enough to write her a check on his personal account! And look what eventually happened to him!! Do we want the same to happen to Mr. Corning? I, for one, do not.

charging fees for appearances..

...Uh, Bill Clinton and most other politicians, when no longer in office, charge for appearances.

Why is this a problem?

Prostitution

is legal and regulated here, as in much of Europe.

I could care less, as long as the women are treated well and are in the profession because they want to be, not because they have to be.

That said, I very much do care about people who say they are monogamous who then go out and screw around on their wives.

I also care about the christianists and Republicans (usually one and the same) who want me to remain a sub-human, stripped of all civil rights, pretend to be oh-so-devoted to God and then go around having sex with every boy and woman who can be bought or threatened into submission or silence.

That, I think, I what causes so many of us to take great pleasure in seeing these christianists get caught. South Carolina just happens to have an unusually large number of fools who are too dumb to cover their tracks.

They take away my rights, they trample my Constitution, then they pretend to be oh-so-Christian. The more of them who get exposed for what they are, the better.

Clinton shouldn't have been impeached for lying about sex, I think it was punishment enough to know that Hillary knew...and, really, who on earth would want to go down in history with the picture of that fat, slimy pig Monica next to his in every book? I really mark this impeachment as the moment a lot of us realized that the christianists and the Republicans were no longer interested in anything but destroying the US. It's total warfare and will remain so until the christianists either win or enough people wake up to see just what their game is.

No, the Democrats aren't a whale of a lot better. But I don't hear any Democrats telling me that I am sub-human for loving my partner. I don't hear Democrats advocating for torturing and raping and killing us 'for our own good'. The Republicans and the christianists sure do, though.

I wonder if his vehicle sported the 70s bumper sticker, "If this van is rockin' don't bother knockin'"?

No wonder these people judge all others so harshly, they are basing their judgements on the lust and depravity in their own minds.

It makes me wanna puke when people like has been entertainers or other public figures come off drugs or booze, find religion and then feel they have a right to sit in judgement of others who have managed to face up to and deal with our problems without addiction problems.

Wonder if he will run and hide into some "Rehab" clinic for "personal issues" now? That always seems to be the next step after they get caught with their pants down....

I do think the officer overstepped his bounds

by calling his wife and then she reporting the incident. If there were no formal charges then the "incident" should not have happened.

Though I am sure the assuptions we all jumped to are correct; there is the possibility that the Dear Ast. Atty General was giving the wee lady a ride to the cemetary to visit the grave of her Dearly Departed Ssainted Grammy. He was consoling the poor lass, who was overcome with greif, when the police came upon them. Fearing what the incident may look like to the fuzz, he choose to flee the situation, much to his own demise but only to prevent someone from calling the young lass unsavory names.

Ok a little far fetched, but plausable. Let's send this one to Mythbusters.
As for the "Blue Pill" and "toys" doesn't everyone have those in the car?

Sigh..

Why do I feel the need to defend my state every time some eff-ing bonehead Christianist does something bone-headed? We're not all knuckle-dragging fire-breathing Baptist fundamentalists. Some of us (nay, many of us) are quite progressive. I just happen to live in a small state that makes some big stupid choices.
Sigh...

This could get messy.

~As for the "Blue Pill" and "toys" doesn't everyone have those in the car?

No, but a roll of paper-towels or a baggie full of napkins, yes.

Dave,

What part of, "I come from Fort Collins, home of Balloon Boy and record holder for the most local laws overturned by superior jurisdictions in the entire US sounds like fun to you?

Please, please don't take me Schadenfreude over this christianist falling over his own dick as a jibe at South Carolina.

After all, you also gave us Josh Turner, who looks gorgeous in fur.

Charging speaking/appearance fees

Hunter, there is nothing wrong with it and it is very common. If you read the whole article, you'll see the problem is that those who are positioning themselves to run for President do not demand $100,000 fees for speaking engagements in early-primary or battleground states, if at all. But then Skanka Palin has never been a swift learner.
