Hey guys and gals,
Ours is a little later model but it seems that it doesn't want to go into the defrost cycle on its own. It ices up, then, I'm guessing, the cold air can't be pulled or pushed from the freezer area to the fresh food area, and we get rising temps. We pull everything out, shut it off for several hours with a fan running on it (doors open) and it seemingly clears and we can turn it back on.
When I was talking to John (Coldspot66, and THANK YOU JOHN!!!) he said it was a hot gas defrost system that should probably be kicking in at least few times each day. He told me how to manually kick it into the defrost cycle, so I do that when I think of it. It seems to kick itself back into refrigerate mode just fine, but maybe too soon?
However, I'm apparently not doing it enough because we're still getting frost buildup in the fins in the freezer. So what I do is shut the freezer off and gently take a heat gun to it on low, probably 12-14" away, to get rid of the frost.
John thinks that the defrost timer is probably kaput, and that sounds like a logical first thing to try. He's looking for one, but I thought I'd reach out to all y'all to see if there might be one floating around. The model of the Combo looks like it's TC469VC.
Thanks for any help,
Chuck
