This one's my Servis Supertwin 111, the last version of the twin tub made by this British company. This one dates from circa 1991.

I've learn't something today...

Excellent Video, i'm quiet fond of these Series of Servis Twin Tubs and I've learn't something today, as I didn't know you can detach part of the agitator for gentle wash cylce's. Was it only for Servis Twin Tubs that did thi, or did other twin tubs do the as well?

Thanks for sharing the vid with us... It is always nice to learn new things, well especially for me lol.

I believe the spin speed to be 2800rpm - need Chestermike to confirm. The reason it reminds you of the Speedqueen is that the SQ was based on this model, or at least an earlier version of it

That is soo smart. I noticed during the second wash, the water was still steaming. How smart is that ? Take a lesson America. Oh, but that wouldn't pass the Energy Fart I mean Star regulations or some nonsense like that.

Yes, I believe it is 2800 RPM on the spinner.

The gentle action option on the agitator I have only come across on Servis although there may have been others with that option. I believe the Speed Queen had two different motor speeds too. Certainly Hotpoint and Hoover did not have that option in the UK.

There is a heater coil under the agitator. This is operated with the same knob as the spinner pump although there is no thermostat like the Hotpoint and Hoover machines. I find that a temperature prong such as used to check the cooking temperature of meat does just as well.

Once the new rubber for the pump arrives next week I'll do a video of the Hoover W3590 Single Tub washer as well. I have had both machines for ages just never the ability to video them. Sadly the Hoovermatic has departed this mortal coil.

welcome to automaticwasher.org, great to see another vintage washer enthusiat in the south wales area. Your supertwin looks in great condition, and a well put together film too. From what I remember of the brochures the spin speed is 2350rpm, just a little faster than hoovers 2300rpm.

looks like a beautiful garden for pegging out, unlike my back yard, do you have a proper line with posts and pulleys? Its a standing joke, mine is the highest line the street.

Look forward to seeing your single tub, in action too, I'm not sure there is this model single tub on youtube.

Thanks for the welcome. I was on the site a few years back but because I didn't post in a long time I think they must have discontinued my membership.

That spin speed sounds more like it. I couldn't remember if it was 2800 or 2300ish. I know both the Hoover and Servis are slower than the Hotpoint's 3100rpm.

It's a great garden although I only put washing out in the summer really. I've only got a rotary line and apparatus relating to another of my odd hobbies usually occupies the place that the washing line should be in - CB antenna pole.

I haven't seen the Hoover Single on Youtube either although there are a couple of wringer washers on. It is much the same really but without the wringer.

Hello Vaughan, a great classic twinny you have there, I always liked the 3 control machines the best, so you could control the wash pump (and switch it on and use it as a bubble frother...LOl) but was convinced by Danksy in Staffs how good the pump was to have with rinsing clearing the water before spinning, having used it many times recently I can understand why....

Hass, yes only Servis had the two stage agi although the Speed Queen version and Simplicity had the two speed motors...it was called a "Snap-On Power Fin and had a lint filter inside it....although it very often laboured at wash-ins by hoover bods that it wasnt a "filter flow" in that respect!!! but then again its not a Rag-a-Matic either ....Coughs!!!...

Hi Mike

I like your machine. I can see uses for the third independent motor control although most would probably need a bit of ingenuity. I've often wondered about switching it on between washes and rigging something to catch the fluff on the way out. I obviously don't have enough to think about!

I don't find the wash action too vigorous on this machine which is good for everyday stuff. If the clothes need a pasting then I use the Hoover.
