Please forgive me for not posting this in the Imperial section... (:

Just for the heck of it,lets keep an eye on this vintage Tappen stove. Still wondering why that last one brought such a large amount, and wonder what this baby will bring. It is the same model stove isn't it?

I think so....I have 2 Hotpoint electric ranges, both from the late 1940's. One was in the house when I bought it and the other is my Grandmothers which she gave to me. Hers is almost perfect and appraised at $4500.00...can you believe it? The other one needs a bit of TLC...haven't had that one appraised, but I saw that one just like it restored went for $3900.00.

Do you know what the difference is between the Deluxe and the Doughboy models are Greg? Wish I had not deleted the other one from my watch list....

Here it is. I'm not totally familiar with all of the differences, but the Doughboy has a towel rack in the right side cabinet, dry-storage drawers on the left, lighted control dials, glass inserts for rear burners for more gentle simmering (?) deluxe oven and broiler drawer handles and generally fancier...

I saw a Deluxe version at an estate sale for $75, when I went back on Sunday, it was sold. Still a very pretty range but the Doughboy was the TOL. The Ebay deluxe model doesn't look like it has an all-porcelain cabinet either?

I see... More bells and whistles on the top of the Doughboy, it looks like (or at least more chrome)
Sure wish I could have a 40 inch stove here.(not that I would have paid $3000.00) Got a very nice all porcelain 36 inch stove with a ceramic lined oven. It had a top on it with a timer and light, and my grandfather removed it because there were no plugs to plug it in. Trying to find something now to "jazz" this one up a bit. It's hard because of the oven vent right in the center though.

Frigidaire and GE, perhaps others, offered add-on options for lights and clocks to some of their lower end stoves in the
40's and early 50's. You might be able to adapt something like that to this stove - which is a real beauty BTW. There are also some great Okeefe & Merritt ranges in 36" widths that are quite stunning, but that would mean starting all over again.

Love the Jadite Mixmaster too!

Tappan

Everyone and their mama down here had that Tappan Deluxe stove. And they lasted a LONG time too because I had an aunt that finally changed hers out in the 1990s (MAJOR BUMMER!)

Stove options

Greg,I designed the kitchen at my house, and only left enough room for the 36 inch stove that was here. Sigh...what one wouldn't give for an extra four inches...
The gut and remodel job was done in 2002. Just the year before I found this site! If I only knew then.....
Anyway, like the stove I have, but would replace for a better one,if it was not too far away. Seems like the REALLY nice ones are on the West Coast. Did find a nice backsplash with clock and light that would have fit via ebay. Like a dumb a**,left it get away. Hope to find something similar sometime. BTW the four attachment holes are all the way across the rear panel on my stove,so this something like this could work. This would look more 50's than 30's,but am still ok with that.

My kitchen is small too Rick! And finding a top of the line 36" is slow buissness. I found one last fall on Ebay but the seller had some bad feedback and I got cold feet!

.

LOL!! Donnie my kitchen isn't small, just my brain!! I had room to move that cabinet over four inches. Just didn't think to do it.

The green bottle on the sink, and the camera hands!

Oh Lord.... I'm busted..... Rick is not into dishwashers. At all. When the cabinetmaker asked me,"where does the dishwasher go?" I said,"no thank you sir,I would rather have the cabinet space instead"
When Gregm was here a couple years ago he said that a dishwasher would fit in the space of the drawer and lower cabinet just to the left of the sink. If I were to sell the house, would install one there just for resale value.

Whoops! I mean to say, the cabinet just to the RIGHT of the sink!! Past my bed time...What can I say? (:

Rick,
I love the fact that you kept the pushbutton light switches intact. I love them. Our church which was built in 1907-08 still has them in many places throughout the building.

Oh I didn't see they were pushbutton switches. My gran had those back in her old Hamilton victorian house and I used to love playing elevator because she also had sliding pocket doors beside them in the diningroom. If it wasn't that it was sliding down the bannister.

Glad you guys like the kitchen.Sometime I will post more photos of it. Push button switches are still in use all over this house,no toggle switches anywhere. So there is plenty of room to turn the switches on and of in the kitchen, without bothering the cuckoo clock at all.
BTW: If by chance any of you guys find a 36" accessory kit that you think would go with my stove, please let me know. Thanks!
