On the Portland Oregon Craigslist, there is an ad under the Antiques section for Antique Appliances.
The is a GE washer from 1956, that the ad said has never been used, plus some other appliances.

Oh my! The washer is more like a 1956 and the dryer a 1954. This is a rare find - too bad I'm not on the west coast!!

Actually Paul if the dryer were a 1954 model instead of having that turquoise button to open the door it would have a bronze painted handle that you could hit with your knee to open the door if your hands were full. There would also be a big round GE badge in the upper right corner of the cabinet as well as the ad below shows.....PAT COFFEY

Thanks for the clarification - I've only gotten a fleeting glimpse of a 54 model and for some reason this one in Oregon reminded me of it. I still wish this was closer... LOL

The dryer is just not TOL for 56. The TOL dryer has the dial arrangement like the washer. This control is more like the 54 and 55 dryers.

I made a deal for the washer and dryer. The washer is serial number TN109333. Looks to be unused!
Bad news is there is no filter. I'm gonna need help!

Well Marty, you could always do what I did. Take a filter pan and cut the top off. Works great!
