Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Maytag Wringer

My mother had a square tub model like the one pictured until 1971. The washer had a gravity drain (np pump). Rinsing was done by hand using a #3 tub on a table that raised to tub to the same height as the washer. The wringer was pivoted around to "wring" rinsed clothing into the clothes basket to be taken to the line to dry. In the time it took on load to becompleted in an outomatic, my mom had three loads of laundry washed, rinsed and hungout on the line to dry. Most pieces were dry in about 2 hours of hanging time too! I miss the smell of lined dried sheets when the linens were changed!

OK

So I am a dummy. Which is the dryer ??????????????????? What makes some people know how to breath? LOL Thanks for posting the most humorous post of the day Ted :-)

Of course this shows up in MY city! Where is a working Frigidaire for under 100 bucks? ( dreaming IK ^_^ )

I hear it all the time. Not many people are that smart about their home economics or the brand name of appliances they have at home. They look at them like most lawn care ignoramuses would a Lawn Boy."It's just a lawn mower. What difference does it make what kind it is?" I had some female customers call their Frigidaire washer a "G and E" only because it was purchased at the Gas and Electric company. But, most claimed their washer is either a Whirlpool or a Lady Kenmore. Then, I'd go to their house and find that it's a GE/Hotpoint or a Frigidaire. However, if I asked them what kind of vehicle they drive is or who their phone company is, they'd know without a doubt what the answer was.

Now you wouldn't call your FORD a CHEVY, now would you??

Well, if some of the above is true, then generic bleach is CLOROX, and a store-brand cleanser is AJAX, and a private-label window cleaner is WINDEX!

Worked at one place & kept hearing "SHIELD-O-SHINE", which was a brand name for stainless steel cleaner no-longer used, or really used long-before I was working there... It got replaced by a more simpler, one-name product, I'd never heard anyone mention: GLINT... (Guess I wouldn't, either; "Steel Cleaner", for me, then!"...)

Give the poor fool a break . . .

. . . maybe they're just using the term washer/dryer as a generic for both. Whoever posted this probably doesn't know one from the other.

Mixguy: I still hang my sheets out to dry. If it's bad weather, I save them until the sun shines. There's almost nothing better than the smell of sheets dried outside in the fresh air.
