Hey everyone: although I read through the AW.org forums each day, it's not often that I have anything to contribute - when it comes to washers, I'm happy to sit back and learn from others! However, today, I do have something to share.

In March this year, I spent 3 days in Germany, touring Miele's factories, development labs, showrooms, and facilities in Guetersloh and Bielefeld. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Miele Museum, which showcases a wide range of their vintage laundry and floorcare appliances, amongst other interesting artefacts from the company's 110-year history.

Embedded below is an 8-min video I made from footage I filmed in the museum. Let me know what you think!

And photos...

Below is a link to my blog, which covers my visit to the Miele Museum. In the blog post is link to one of my Flickr albums - this contains 70 photos of various vintage Miele washers, vacs and dishwashers, as well as some more unusual Miele products: bicycles, motorbikes, and even the last surviving example of a Miele car!

Immer Besser

Congratulations Jack on what must have been a great opportunity to see Miele "inside out" looking at the museum layout its very simple & stylish and it works..nothing else expected really!!

The vac pods almost look out of a SciFi movie, just waiting for them to come alive, the Turquoise & white vac looks like a Lux Z62 from the back, got a shock seeing that..

I love how they exploded the washers etc showing all the individual components, my favourite washer would have to be the twinny, I wonder if it has the top loading drum, agi or pulsator!! louis where are you!!!

Interesting seeing the cars & cycles quite a diversification, similar to the Maytag experience!!

what was the best part of the experience for you Jack??

Cheers, Mike

Miele

I have a Miele Dishwasher, Vacum Cleaner and Washer and Dryer and love all of them! Great quality and design!

Miele

Hi Jack.

Loved the video of the Miele factory.

I have the Miele S7 210 vacuum cleaner. Although the first one I had was faulty, Comet did exchange it for me and the one I got now is working fine.

My parents have Miele appliances and have had them for years.

Thanks for posting the videos on here.

Paul

Good Video

What a great video. I like the sliding doors as you enter each chamber of the museum. Very cool.

Makes me want to run out and order a Miele.

Hi guys - so glad you all like the video, photos etc!

Mike - it would be hard to pick out a 'best' bit, since it was all fascinating. It was a HUGE honour (and a big surprise!) to meet Dr. Miele in person - right up there with meeting James Dyson and the Hoover family! Also great to meet Mr. Enslin, Miele's Head of Design. The production lines were extremely interesting to see - the painstaking attention to detail and obession with quality is quite inspiring! And as you know, I'm really interested with the design/engineering/testing aspect of product design, so seeing the development labs was brilliant.

washmeup - glad you like your Miele products! I currently only have the S7 AutoCare and 'Art' vacuum cleaners, but I love those. I wish I could afford Miele kitchen and laundry appliances!

paulinroyton - without meaning to take things off-topic too much, I'd be interested to hear what problems you had with your S7??

whirlcool - I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I totally agree, hideous soundtracks ruin videos! I did the best editing I could with the footage I had - there was no time to set up proper shots with a tripod, etc. I just got as much as I could on camera; I felt I owed it to all the collectors back home!

mrb627 - I know what you mean - if I had the money, everything would be Miele at home (vacs aside!)

Al - if the UK guys could find cheap flights to Germany over a bank-holiday weekend, the museum is worth the trip alone! And yes, the Hybrid did do well - glad to see Which? Magazine concurs with my analysis ;)

foraloysius - I highly recommend it, and entry is free. Totally worth a visit!

Miele S7210 Upright Vacuum

Hi Jack.

The videos of the Miele museum are fantastic.

Well as for my S7210 vac. My partner bought me the S7210 for one of my Xmas presents. I was over the moon because he hid it from me so well, lol. I unpacked it on Xmas day, but was not able to use it as we was going out for lunch & evening meal. Boxing day I had my parents over so I still was unable to try it out, was well gutted.

The day after boxing day I tried out my new toy and was over the moon. I cleaned the front bedroom and the suction was great. My partner made me lunch so was gonna do rest of the house after my lunch. When I turned on the vac it made such a noise, rather like a boeing 777 taking off. I turned off the vac, looked underneath to see if anything had got stuck in the agitator, could not find anything stuck.

So we drove down to comet, just a few mins from our house. There was a very young lad on customer service desk. We explained the problem and he turned on the vac and it was still making this awful noise. The young lad said he was gonna repair it and tried to take off the bottom plate, but was unable to do it. My partner said we did not want the vac to be repaired as it was brand new. We said we either want a new machine or a refund. The Manager then came over and said we could have a new vac.

When I got the new vac home I cleaned every room and it seemed to be ok. Up to now I have had no problems with the vac.

The only thing that keeps on happening is there are two plastic bits underneath that keep on falling off, and it is a bit heavy.

Apart from that the new machine is ok.

Regards

Paul

Oh my!

Daaaarn thats why i really want to go to Guthersloh/Bielefield, Too bad its like 300km riding from holland to west-germany.
Anyway, Miele's are the best washers/everything you can get, But beware of older w7xx series, They might have broken bearings and broken PCB's.
