any thoughts on the Singer classic vacuums?

Canisters made by Eureka(back then anyway)
The "magic carpet" upright design dates from the late 40's and was IMHO years ahead of its time, and very different from anything on the market at the time. Twin fans, one on each side of the motor pulling air from the center. Today the Hoover Windtunnel V2(Savvy) uses the same principle.
That upright was a LOUSY vacuum though, its biggest design flaw was a floating brush that could get "hung up" in the nozzle and never contact the carpet. The design was revised in 1961 to the larger square base, and a much better cleaner was born.
Singer private labeled these cleaners for Sears, Lewyt(Canada), Sunbeam, and Westinghouse.
Very collectible machines today in any form.

One particular accessory that caught my eye was the turbine brush attachment on the canister. Talk about rare!!

I saw those tailfins,, me like.. I'd like that upright as well.
Here's my two again. There's another one (Kenmore) been sitting at VV the last few weeks with a dial knob on the back instead of the lever adjustment but I'm not giving them $24 for it.

Yeppers those are fins, and thats the 1959 Golden Glide canister, selling new back then for a whopping $89.95!
Pete has a 1978 or so Kenmore and an early 90's Singer after Ryobi took them over.
Rich has an early model Magic Carpet model.
Now I should go take some pictures!

1974 Model U49A Golden Powermaster.
I found this at a church rummage sale in Elgin Illinois back in 2002, paid a whole $2 for it.
At the 2004 VCCC convention here in Chicago this cleaner tied for first place in the beater bar catergory of the cleaning contest, and won "Best Original machine"
Its the nicest one of these I have

jeff's singer vacs
Jeff , My Mom loved this vacuum when i showed her pictures of the Chicago Convention because the bag looked like our old sofa that we had in the 70's thru the 90's. I remember you have a great Singer collection! The Singer vacuums i have are the 1959 Golden Glide, and the 1956? Roll a Magic which are both Eureka built. I also have the later Power Glide and Compact Power. We have the same model E9 but i don't have the cool tool caddy. I also have the Canadian C7 Power Master canister which weighs 800 pounds and has the Preco Turbo Nozzle. All these vacuums work so well and are muy powerful. I always liked the Singer canisters better compared to their Eureka counterparts even though they were the same vacuum, the Singers were more "ornate" and i love the Singer logo with the lady at the sewing machine!
I have one of the old metal Singer uprights and one of the Magic Carpet models. I am still looking for one of the 70's uprights like you have. I got adventureous and replaced the broken zipper on the Magic Carpet bag. I had never done that before but i was tired of the MC looking so sad! I did a so so job ( and bent the needle on my sewing machine )and it doesn't look too bad . I did bring all my Singers to the LA covention because you just don't see that many at the conventions.Welll maybe one or two.
The one model I have been looking for but have yet to find is the model C 10 Golden Glide from the 70's. It was the canister that stored the hose inside the machine. It pulled out when you vacuumed and it retracted for storage. You changed the bag from a door underneath the vacuum. My Gram had one around the time she bought her Golden Touch N Sew sewing machine. It replace her old AirWay 66.

Jeff, Which Golden Glider do those bags go for? I have a few packages for the 1959 Golden Glide and i have what is left of my Gram's C10 Golden Glide, an opened package of C10 Singer bags that was found way back in the hall closet. I would hold onto those bags if i were you because you never know when you minght add a GG to you collection. Thank you so much for the offer though.
So now i should take this time thank all my friends who I have received Singer Gifts from. Jeff sent me some bags for me my Power Compact E9 . Thanks!!!! Ken Wagman from Capron Ill sent me some wonderful brown Singer attachments for my Roll a Magic canister thus completing that machine. Thank you Ken!!! And last but not least, I got my FABULOUS!! Singer C7 from my friend Greg Bushman!

Marty the C-7 was my first ever vacuum, given to me by my aunt back in 1975. She'd bought it new in 1964, and by 1974 she'd burned out two motors in it! The C-7 was replaced by a model E-11 which burned up in 1976(my aunt was notorious for over filling the bag) Following the death of the 2nd Singer we convinced my Aunt to get a Hoover Convertible, which she got 14 years out of.
The C-7 is a HUGE canister and very heavy! The two given to me by my Aunt are long gone, but I did get a C-7 from Ken Wegman at the Chicago convention. I had been looking for an E-11 but was very happy to get an E-9 NIB from ebay a couple of years ago. I also have a C-9 Silver Glide that is in beautiful shape too.
