My sister has a 40's vintage Wedgewood stove that has developed a leak at the valve for the griddle.  Southern California Gas was out and confirmed it.  The guy said the part can be found, but the front panel would have to be removed in order to replace the valve.  That is more than my sister can handle.  She has American Home Shield coverage, but she knows they're going to send out some joker who doesn't know anything about a stove that's more than five years old.

Does anyone in the L.A. area know of a fix-it man for vintage gas stoves?

It may just be a matter of using valve grease and greasing the valves. More of a common thing than most realize for those old brass valves...

Hey Andy, that's exactly the type of repair she'd love to have.  I am 100% sure that she almost never uses the griddle, so I'm betting your remedy would work.  She's just not handy and doesn't know anyone locally who is.

Jack Santoro may be expensive, but if he's the only option, I'll at least advise her to give him a call.

She's also near Virgil's Hardware, a great old time store (I wish I had one like that near me) that may be able to recommend someone.  Sometimes there are business cards for repair men posted at appliance parts retailers, but those guys won't likely take on vintage stuff.
