It's prom time in the senior highs

and abba's "Dancing Queen" is a perennial favorite. In some classes where there is a lot of musical talent, they'll do a sing along. It's hilaious and heart-warming. Wonder if love of "Dancing Queen" is universal, or just in the old gay Northeast.

Personally, DQ is one of the best songs I know--happy, up-lifting, with a tiny tweak of melancholy. Watermelons and cauliflower. Hungry?? Yummy!! It floats through my head a lot.

Queen of the Desert

Whenever I hear ABBA I am reminded of the 1994 movie, "The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert", in which one of the main characters is obsessed with ABBA, and another of the main characters is equally opposed to ABBA. I guess one of them wanted to use ABBA as all the music for them to lip-sync in drag to.

Me, I can take it or leave it. Of course nobody could escape ABBA music during their prime. I confess that after about three songs in a row it starts to wear on me, especially since none of the lyrics seem to have anything meaningful to say.

Ducking and running from a room full of ABBA fans now.

I like some ABBA

And Dancing Queen would be my fave. It really get's ya going, and I love music that does that esp. when cleaning the house. And the LOUDER the better!

Another film where the singer was obsessed with ABBA, would be Muriel's Wedding.
Crazy movie!

Agnetha...

I just got 2 of her albums from amazon today..OOOMMMMMGGGGDDD!!!!! Most of its in Swedish and Im Swedish too and know the language. Dancing Queen and all the rest are awesome in Swedish. 2 cd set called "My love, my life"36 songs total and one song made in 1968 with Frida called "Sonny Boy". It's just too pretty to describe except for "UNDERBAR" 'wonderful' in Swedish.....Bill in Az.....

Babs confusion swept away

You are so correct LP. That's what happens when one doesn't
keep up on their brain stimulation; little details like
"Color Me..." and "My Coloring Book" tend to blend into
a nice sweet batter.
I do like ABBA, never bought any of their records, can't even remember which era that was, I have one Kate Bush, fairly
early I think and I have yet to drop the tone arm on it!
Wasn't ABBA a sizable chunk of the soundtrack for "Priscilla,
Queen of the Desert" ?

I must confess I have been fickle with ABBA. When they around in the 70s they were huge in AU (AU was the first place outside of Sweden they were a hit.) I was a fan then, I was in my early teens. Later they became "uncool" for being too saccharine and lightweight. I forgot about ABBA. When Priscilla QOTD and Muriel's Wedding hit the screens I heard ABBA again and loved hearing it. Not enough to buy anything but I thoroughly enjoy ABBA music when I hear it.

I Loved the movie "Muriels Wedding", was that shown in US?

Chris.

There's an episode of Maclcom in the Middle that has Dewey dancing on the kitchen table with a rose in his mouth, as Bea Arthur as his babysitter dances beside the table, to the music of "Fernando".

Then Bea Arthur suffers a major heart attack.

Don't know if that is a commentary on ABBA or not.
