Malcolm, how old is your dishwasher? I've never seen the front of Elite racks dip down. My bottom rack is level across and my top rack, it goes up in a hill rather than down in a valley so to speak. And mine was bought last May.

It is about three years old. It cleans well but is probably one of the worst constructed machines on the market. If you look on the left, just under the top rack, you'll see a little white goop. I had to caulk the door seal in place as it would either pull out when the door was opened or slip just enough to leak.
This is the last Sears appliance I will ever own.
Wish I had bought the Bosch instead!

Well since whirlmores are starting to show up at the end of this thread i like to share thanksgiving pics with the group.Now some peaple dont like the new design i like them, that wash arm design has been around since i beleve i saw in the early 80's and has gone threw different pump designs Malcome i agree with the arm hole design, but it really cleans well i got my friends a GU2600XTP model and it's very quit a little motor hum compared to bosch & miele and other european machines.I used the pots & pans cycle with a high temp score&sani rinse last night a really dirty load i hope bob approves i need his stamp hi bob! like to meet you someday. The machine has a sheer clean wash system & sensor wash system it really works when the fisrt pre rinse started the machine addded more water twice and drain some of the water out as it was still washing pretty cool, i hope everybody had a nice holiday here are some pics Darren k

Darren, oh yes sir you get a BobLoad most definitely!! I would ghave loved to see what that skillet/fry pan that's in the front looked like inside. I'm surprised it got clean being right behind that cassarole dish. I have the Kenmore Elite version of this machine. The little bit of water draining off and adding more water during the prewash is what it's supposed to do. It's part of the Automatic Filter Purge feature (AFP). As soil collects and the sensors sense the restriction on water flow and pressure on pump, the drain motor turns on and removes soiled water in the collection chamber for 5 seconds and water is added for 10 seconds. It will do this up to 4 times during the prewash. If there is food soil still being cleaned off during the main wash, the machine will purge like that up to 3 more times (yes folks, mine has been so nasty and dirty of a load a couple of times it has done that since I've had the machine since last May). It does surprise me how well it does clean. Again, you get bobLoad status. I look forward to meeting you too sometime. Glad you got to spend the holiday with John & Cal, they're great guys!!

Thanks bob that pan got clean it had gravey in it every dish and pot had enough room for water circulation, thinks for the info on the APF system i talk about them at work all the time. I forgot about the seconds when the water comes in and how long it purges, the system works very well some of the members don't like them maybe because of cycle time. i'm waiting for the Whirlpool corp to come out with a new mind blowing wash system they still can improve that very top spray system somtimes with hollow glasses some sedament still remains maybe a larger sprayarm how knows? Well i got the bob stamp and that is cool lol .There is a miele pro diswasher in super,(thread 14407) and the some store pics where i work it's really powerful machine see what u think about it. talk to you soon Darren k

Darren, When will Whirlpool come out with a mind blowing wash system you ask?
Well they had their chance but blew it when they stopped making the old style Kitchenaidsand decided to make clones out of all the machines they built.
If you look at any of the machines out there by most manufacturers, not only WP,KM and KA, you will almost always see the wash arm being hung under the upper rack and totally unprotected! I mean that there is no "CHINA GUARD" like the old Kitchenaids to prevent anything from hitting or being hit by the uppper washarm. Unless you dropped something thru the top rack, that arm would always spin and clean the dishware in the upper rack. I have a DU950 as a spare in my garage and it is very easy to block the arm from spinning. Even the tall tubs suffer the same defect. Not to mention they are pumping water to that arm through noting bigger than a 3/4" tube most of the time.How much water really gets out of those arms?
Now I realize they are all trying to make greater use of the top rack but there can be alot of improvement if all the manufacturers would revisit that older design.. Maybe better yet, go way back to Maytag's Idea with the big plates going on top and glasses on the bottom. Then it would be nearly impossible to prevent the washarms from turning.
Kitchen Aid was really the first machine that had the soil chambers in the washarm support and then WP and Maytag followed suit as well as did most of the other manufacturers. That system they had from the 21 thru 22 series cleaned better than anything out there and still didnt take 2 hours to finish.
And how many stories do we hear about the older machines doing a fantastic job on the dishes and did it from prerinse to dry in under an hour!
You can talk 'til you are blue in the face about energy efficiency but there is no savings if a machine runs for 2 hours heating water and then leaving water on the dishes if not food soil or you have to run it twice to clean the dishes.
Want a Mind blowing wash system? Easy.. put back a decent pump of at least 1/2 horsepower and design some decent washarms to deliver water throughout the tank that arent restricted by anything in the lower rack.

I want to see a loaded 3 rack Maytag. In that machine, the dishes are ALMOST on the top!
In the defense of some modern machines, I still think Maytag and GE machines could be considered [hurricanes in boxes] if not, at least severe thunderstorms.
Whirlpool's current machines sound like they perform as potently as a spring shower. Frigidaire's are even worse! Barely a light drizzle.
I have a Frigidaire machine in my apartment with the 5 level Precision wash system. It's OK...it does wash all the dishes. Try to get it to scrub pots and pans? no way. At least they make up for their weak pump by alternating the spray action from top to bottom. I think Whirlpool severely needs to do that if they're not going to fill their tubs high enough to allow full press.
I think Maytags have the highest press wash pumps out there today. Look at their 1/3HP pancake motors and their pump impellers are the same as what were used in old KitchenAids (the ones that look like pool pump impellers).
Hell, Maytag must be putting alot of water through if it can handle 4 wash arms.
